Whatever country, whatever branch, for however long: If you've served your country in the military, thank you.

And be assured that Master (USN Ret.) has been thoroughly thanked for his 24 years. :cattail:

I've never learned what the appropriate response to "thank you for your service" should be. The pause that occurs while I try to summon a decent reply is usually a bit too long and ends with a short,"Thanks!"

Thank you for thanking me for my service? That feels wrong somehow...
The pleasure was mine?
Thanks for the free pancakes? I'd do it all over again for the pancakes! Hmm...

It's tricky.

You must have waaay better pancakes than us.

Nobody eats those.

And I'm with you on the appropriate response to that too.

Anyone else got a take on the response to "Thank you for your service"?

What would you, as the person who says thank you, consider a good reply?

I served over 20 years, my answer would be. You are welcome, it was a pleasure to serve.

Was it always a pleasure? Of course not. There were times it was pure misery and times it was exhilarating, pretty much like real life. I would not take a million dollars for the camaraderie, I learned from the good guys and the ass holes alike, I learned leadership from the good leaders I worked for and what not to do from the jerks who had an extra stripe or a bar.

I believed I did the best job I could and enjoyed my time. When it stopped being fun is when I retired.

I am proud of my service and over all it was a pleasure.

Mike

Thank you for your gratitude.

I've enjoyed the last twenty-some years of serving. There were good points and low, but in all, I wouldn't trade it for anything else.

JFK said it best about serving in the Navy.

It is possible that my standards are on the lower end of normal when it comes to pancakes that are free.

Hey, any ex / serving member has a pretty low standard for stuff that might pass as food...but the pancakes here are just...no. Even syrup can't save them.

I've never seen a good mess pancake.

I did see some bright yellow ones once, but that was only cos the S.I. locals we'd contracted thought breakfast could use a little colour to cheer us up.
