Same here angie, minus the cheerleading My girls don't get involved in activities like that. The closest they do in high schools here are "majorettes" in marching bands, but non of them are interested in those. The eldest is an "official emo" or young Goth and the middle one is preparing to leave primary education before entering high school next year The youngest is still in prep school

I couldn't handle having more the one kid I can barely find the energy now always on the go never stops.

I understand what you mean angie Both TRT and I are professional working people and we rely on my Mum (retired) or a local nanny service. Having more children at this stage is definitely a big no no

I have plans to expand my career into a more active private field too. So far my love and I are in deadlock over that move and the idea of more children obviously gives him an advantage. I know he will read this But, again it is not going to happen yet. So, again yes, children and career goals can also be juxtaposed.

The nanny service we rely on is well organised and treats our family as "real" customers with needs and expectations (sorry for being technical) which ARE important regarding children's well being and safety. Atleast, they can be trusted as well as expensive, but well worth it

When it comes to kids if you love and care for them I don't think you can put a monetary value on it I know if I thought my daughter needed something I would find away pay for it. It's so sad there's many people who don't care.

Exactly angie But one must take care not to "spoil" a child, that is give in too much. TRT and I did this with his daughter, my adopted and eldest I mentioned.

Because she was brought into the UK from the Netherlands, out of the care of her mother, who is Dutch and TRT's ex-wife, we tended to give-in to her demands a great deal to make her feel comfortable. She is intelligent and realised that she could use these demands to her advantage (still does a little today) and created herself a level of self-importance and disrespect, until we both realised and had to face the problem head on.

We made it clear after I had my youngest she had sisters to share things with. When you just have one child, you can focus your full attention on that one child...

I will be the first one to admit I am a crap mom. I tell my kids that I cover the bare necessities and it is up to them to come up with the money for other things that they want. [laughs] This normally entails going over to grandparents for some 'work'.

That being said, my kids are freaking me out a little tonight. My youngest cleared and set the table before dinner. And then cleared all our plates afterwards. My oldest is sitting down to finish up some homework.. and here is the worrying part... without fussing. Hmm... I think they are getting ready to ask for something.

Isn't it sad that when they are on their best behavior is when you have to be most suspicious? [laughs]

I joke around about how awful they are, really they are pretty good. But I will admit I got tired of the 'gimmes' a year or so ago. They get an allowance (when they are willing to work for it) and they should be able to save for what they want. Anything else can wait for either Christmas or birthdays.

Of course I say that knowing that a week or so ago, the book fair was in town and I bought them each a few books. *sigh* Yes, sometimes I cave.

Today, we have been touring all around the local "flea markets" or "car boot sales" in the area. We were looking for something old and/or unique that someone might have cast off, yet retains a value at an auction. An idea TRT and our eldest. Dreams of making lots of money it seems Personally, it was interesting, but it was so cold today.

going antique shopping is fun

Yes, I discovered that angie. I did not know exactly what I was really looking for. I am still a learner in the game it seems But, TRT knew a few things and indeed spotted an item he got excited about for just a few pounds. It was a model car dating back to the fifties. He intends to hold onto it and go to one of the auctions in Derby one day.

My Dad also does antique dealing for fun and recently found six vases in Spain worth over 1,ooo Euros each . Personally, I think this searching around is a warm weather pursuit. All I have been doing all day in between searching stalls and driving is drinking hot coffee to keep warm and then looking for a bar/pub to use their loo
