Porn or plot?

When you read a story here what gets you going, 'porn' style stories or plottier ones with a character background that's been fleshed out? I like to dabble in writing a bit, but tend to get conflicting advice (Dialgoue is hard!). I'm guessing the guys like to dive straight in perhaps?

They could get both by reading mine, I hope. I try for literary porn.

On Literotica there is a reader for every type of story. Just write what you want to write - and try not to take too much notice of the comments from people who don't share your tastes.

Plot/character. Doesn't mean it needs to be a soap opera, but I want something more than "I didn't have money for a tip so I screwed the pizza guy".

Best: when the sex adds to the story and the story adds to the sex.

I read stroke - porn only. I write highbrow - plot with porn included. To each their own.

I read and write stories with a plot and some substance to them.

For me a stroke story would equal jacking off

a erotic story with a good build up is like good sex.

IMNTHO, there are three elements. You gotta have sex, it's nice to have a bit of character development, it's really nice to have a story framework, in which the sex and characters play out.

But those long buildups are the best stroke stories out there.

I equate the word stroke with a short and dirty let's get to the point story.

I've said in a few author's notes that to me a good long build up in a story is like sex during foreplay. We know where we're going, but let's take our time and enjoy the trip.

My wife put it well when she said a quick stroke story si like being in bed with a grabby young guy who's barely gotten laid.

A good story with a good build up is like being in bed with an experienced lover who knows how to please you.

But there's plenty here who like quick and dirty as well, so no matter what you want to write or read there's plenty of each to go around

Some of those quick and dirty stories are really entertaining. (And I'm talking about reading with both hands firmly planted on the iPhone.) I like variety.

Yes, sometimes a nice short story is very good. Then again a long story is very good. Stroke is stroke, no matter the length. (No pun intended)

I'd rather do sex than write about it so most of my stories tend to be plot heavy. But then, as the man said, the only difference between a dirty story with literary bits and a literary story with dirty bits is the word order.

If you watch a movie and the lead actress shows her breasts in the beginning of the movie, that's one thing. But if you see her breasts at the end of the movie, then it's much more exciting because you got to know her first and the tension was built up. It's like seeing the breasts of someone you've known for years rather than a total stranger.

That's how I approach erotic stories.

If you get to know the characters in some way, then the sex is so much more arousing.

When I began contributing to LE 4+ years ago, my first half dozen or so stories were all strokers, even though they had a small group of recurring characters revolving around one main one. It was like a TV show where each "episode" stood on its own. I enjoyed writing the shorties and the feedback that came with them from the people looking for just that.

When I had the main character fall into a relationship, the direction changed and I was suddenly concentrating on plot development, romance, and drama to do a major story that ran for more than 35 chapters before I took it down with the intention of turning it into a published work with sequels. (a dream that died on the vine)

Now I enjoy the challenge of putting together the multi-chapter/series style writing with the expected hot sex included, but also strive to work in a respectable amount of plot and character development with my occasional foray back into the stroker genre too.

IMNSHO, whether it is a stroker or a sexual 'War & Peace', there has to be more than just body parts, moaning, and bodily fluids involved to make a story worth reading...or writing in the first place.

When I'm reading free, online erotica, I'm looking for a quick turn-on. If I wanted a heavy time investment, I'd just pay for a book.
I don't want to wade through pages of character development in order to get to the action.
Which isn't to say that character and plot aren't important. On the contrary, both those elements are crucial turn-on factors. Nameless, faceless, 2D body parts thrusting and rubbing together in a vacuum of context just doesn't do it for me.
The best stories give me a loft of information about character, setting, and plot without using a lot of words. Succinctness is very important when dealing with the non-sexual elements of erotica.

This is exactly how I feel, and the driving force behind my writing in this style.

Bullshit. Guys, me included, will look at breasts all day and every day, no matter whose they are or how long we've known them. If you say different, you're a liar or gay.

Mr. Patientlee says boobs are boobs. I tend to think a whole lotta guys think that way, whether they admit it or not.

Like I always say a sex scene is not a story. Honestly if I want a sex scene/porn I'll watch a video of it, not read about it. A story that uses sex in imaginative ways can be amazing. Alas authors who can pull that off perfectly are rare on this site, me included. But I keep trying hoping one day i can find the right mix of porn and plot.
