any truth to this?

This is over 5 years old. Seems like it has come and gone. No need to rehash something this old. Just my 2 cents.

Well, this thread and the link you provided haven't been deleted by any of the admins or mods, which should tell you something.

I'm sure the reports are as true as anything on the web, especially when it comes to people anonymously posting personal opinions, especially people who have some personal ax to grind.

Is Lit or those who operate it perfect? Of course not. They're only human after all.
Still, I'd rather post a story here than other erotic literature sites, and Lit does have an astonishing selection of very well written stories by authors who know how to write.

But do your own research and come to your own conclusions.

I have been on this site for over two years now and although I am sure it isn't perfect, I have yet to see any of the things mentioned in the report.

The story section, I believe, is unsurpassed on the internet.

I use the bulletin board and whilst there are some users I would gratefully strangle in their sleep, most are just here to have fun and get their respective rocks off!

People will criticise anything just for the sake of it seems to me.

Come on Chastity, you started this would you like to voice an opinion??

I remember reading this, especially the prude in comment # 5, who spams the page no less than three times:

Literotica is a PORN site. Users risk contracting a sexually transmitted disease, figuratively speaking. PORN sites are typically run by the scum of the earth, and Literotica has been reported to be one of the worst. The site is frequented by perverts and children (since no verification of age is required, other than you say you are 18 or older). We know what kinds of problems that leads to. The site should be investigated by authorities to determine if the allegations of fraud (fixing contests) are provable. That's one way to shut down a smut machine that preys on children.

Can somebody explain to me what a 'children' is, and why this smut machine must prey on it to continue running?

Anything successful at what it does gets unpleasant attention.

While Literotica might not be perfect, and we may gripe about the parts that don't work and hate the trolls, it is much better than its competitors.

I've been here nearly five years, and found it quite enjoyable, with good stories and good people. Yes, even some of the trolls are engaging. And problems? Of course, but not enough to outweigh the good. I expect Og is right about the cause of the negative attention.

It's a shakedown scam.

The site generates several million dollars of revenue a year, the company says. Here’s how it makes its money. Criticized firms can pay a flat fee based on the volume of complaints received about them. It can be as low as $5,500 but some firms have paid more than $100,000. The money pays for inspectors to verify that complaints have been resolved, and then the site injects a new headline and lengthy text above the original complaint. Magedson says he gets about 40 new customers every month. If complaints return, the site strips off the positive headline and copy. Financial products company Primerica is in the program, as are Lear Capital, an online gold coin company, nationwide franchise Oxi Fresh Carpet Cleaning, and many others.

Companies can also pay $2,000 to have a third-party arbitrator establish statements of fact in postings. Ripoff Report will redact any wrong facts but leave in everything else. About 30 firms have paid for such arbitration, says in-house lawyer Anette Beebe. These programs help generate several million dollars of revenue a year, Magedson says.

Sounds like a protection racket.

You give me money and I won't wreck your business.
