With website woes ongoing, the Obama administration Monday granted a six-week extension until March 31 for Americans to sign up for coverage next year and avoid new tax penalties under the president's health care overhaul law.

The move had been expected since White House spokesman Jay Carney promised quick action last week to resolve a "disconnect" in the implementation of the law.

That's five months. I'm glad to see the Dems finally accepted the compromise offered weeks ago by the House GOP members.

This was never offered.

It would probably have been taken if it was since it's largely symbolic but it wasn't offered.

A year long delay designed to prevent the funding of the law was "offered" not a six week delay to give it more time to work as advertised. That's not remotely the same thing.

The delay is six months. From Oct. 1 through March 31.

Oct 1 was the first day of enrollment, not the day those who would see a tax penalty had to be signed up by.

And? I keep waiting for you guys to make a point.

I think the point is that the president went to the brink with the House Republicans over the issue that under no circumstances will there be any negotiation as to delaying Obamacare.

What part of no negotiations are you having problems with.? So basically if they didn't offer this specific incarnation they did not for anything of value? Obama could have saved face for everyone involved by simply saying the truth..." well I tell you what ...I just heard from my computer people that it's not quite ready to go....why dont we push this back 6 months and let's talk about it then?"

I was under the impression that Republicans got nothing out of their little stunt. Sun interesting take from someone does suggesting that since he had dug in his heels it basically forced him to roll it out as scheduled even though he knew it wasn't going to work at that time. Seems a pretty bad miscalculation. I assume that he didn't know how badly it wasn't working.

The GOP forced Obama to own ObamaCare and own the mess.

The "ownership" you suggest would imply a level of taking responsibility and/or being held to account that I really don't see happening.

But hope springs eternal.

Ownership was thrust upon him in the same way paternity is forced on some men.

The problem is that the previous administration saddled this administration with a law beleaguered by political enemies, fraught with economic impossibilities and an unworkable IT system. Blame the Previous Administration.

I blame specifically the Taft administration.

The Republicans did get nothing out of their little stunt.

It's hard to know if he knew how badly it was working or how much it was or wasn't effected by the little stunt. Those are details that ultimately don't matter.

However you do understand 6 weeks is different from 6 months right? A 6 week delay would likely have been accepted had it been offered. It however was not and would not have been offered because it wouldn't have done anything at that point in the game.

And no the Republicans didn't need to offer this specifically, they needed to offer something of value and they were not doing that. They were trying to kill the bill. They weren't even pretending otherwise.

Obamaxare is broken....obama is a liar

A dishonest potus...obama could learn a thing or two from Putin

"will not negotiate".....6 weeks or 6 months, did not matter. obama was not negotiating with "terrorists"....remember?

Also, if my husband knew in April that this was not going to be ready, surely to goodness obama knew. Well, of course, he was busy playing golf, hanging out with this hollywood buds and taking super fun trips around the world....... so maybe he didn't have his free obamaphone with him and no one could get in touch!

Yes, Obama wasn't negotiating. I find it hilarious that given his past you actually believe that. Especially when he went in there with your budget.

As for your hubby you do know if this thing is up within the current deadline that makes your hubby wrong and Obama right though? Just for the record.

Umm...sweetie, "this thing" was suppose to be up and running by October 1. Missed that deadline didn't they?

Changing the deadline is NOT having it up and running when it was due. THAT is what the obamacare IT man told my husband. THAT is what obama said would happen....

and THAT is EXACTLY what failed completely!

(and the fact that apparently never heard your obama in chief say that he would not negotiate is quite humorous to me.......)

In it's entirety, without a single Republican vote. If one Pub had voted for Obamacare the Dems would be saying both parties are at fault because the bill had bipartisan support.

The GOP learned from the Dems back when Poppy Bush helped them with the READ MY LIPS tax hike. The Dems then stuck it up the GOPs ass.

Not this time. Their big shit sandwich came outta the White House mess hall. Now they gotta eat it.
