So if I should up and move to Rome I'm Italian?
If you have roots in Australia other than as an Aborigine, your forebears were spendthrifts, whores, cutthroats, and dead beats.
Sort of like having deep roots in Georgia in the States. Hmmm, or shallow for that matter.
Hey!![]()
Someone else's crazy requires nothing of you. That'd be a logical argument if Australia had an actual "race" as such. Australia is multi cultural. If you were to up and move to Australia, and oh I don't know, live here for 30 years and gain citizenship, who the fuck is to tell you you're not Australian? Ditto America, imo.
My mother wasn't born in Australia. She was born in Viet Nam, and immigrated. She's an Australian.
I was born in Australia. I expect any minute GS is going to ask for my long form certificate, because apparently even "living in Australia doesn't make you Australian."
I have no idea if this shit is some kind of hate on the fact that I'm Asian and therefore can't "really be Australian", but it's not like I'm surprised really.
should. insomnia will kill me.
Someone else's crazy requires nothing of you.
you say that like being Australian is a good thing.

I once met a guy who had proof that Stephen King killed John Lennon. It means nothing about Stephen King, or John Lennon, or proof. It's like I have my own special little team of birther! (a team of 1, but hey, a girls gotta take what she can get.)
You'll be fine. Pretty diverse crowd around. They are going to trip on that voice though. You'll be asked about it and complimented all day long.
Not unlike when you and dolf go out of the country or here before.
Does that get annoying? The "Oh I love your accent" deal?
Oh sweet mother England, land of purity and grace
AND obviously where I MUST come from since I don't talk or type like a bogan.
what do trips to the UK from the States typically cost? cos I INTEND TO GO THERE.
it's not as odd as people commenting on my walk. never get that in britland but I've had it several times in the states. how does one answer the question of 'where did you learn to walk?'![]()

woot! you need to ask a yank because flying from here to the states & back is a different price to flying from there to here & back. us poor brits get ripped off.Oh sweet mother England, land of purity and grace

I would guess maybe her mother is a bit like mine in that she would flip her lid if you were sloppy in your speaking and sounded like a local. that creates a more precise diction.I once met a guy who had proof that Stephen King killed John Lennon. It means nothing about Stephen King, or John Lennon, or proof.
I have an odd ability to be able to place most US accents within hundred or two miles of a person's hometown. You'd be surprised how much information lives in vowel pronunciation. But there are times where nothing about their accent places them in any one place. In those cases, almost every time, either dad was in the army and they moved every two years, or one or both parents was from another country/region.
You're obviously Australian. Your mom had a Vietnamese accent. You don't. But her accent, either slight or severe, is contained somewhere in yours. No big mystery there.
In other words, it doesn't mean Stephen King killed John Lennon.
