Ratio of votes to views

My two lowest rated stories have the highest number of views and also the largest ratio of votes to views. In other words, more of the people who view my low rated stories vote, and more people view my low rated stories than my higher rated stories.

What's up with that? When I'm reading, I have a tendency to not give any story ranked lower than 4.0 a chance. I exclusively view stories with high ratings. Am I that different from the other Literotica readers?

What could be drawing readers to my low rated stories?
Are the stories possibly low rated because there are more views? (do I have cause and effect reversed?)
Are there any theories why my low rated stories get more votes per views? Is it a measure of controversy?

Category has a lot to do with votes vs views. Category also has a lot to do with scores in general. Some categories are soft with more high votes and some are hard. Some categories have more trolls, loving wives is a good example.

You need to post a link to your stories in your sig line so us lazy impaired can see what you are talking about. You'll find your sig line set up in the User CP at the top of the page.

If you look at your recent activities page, you'll see all your stats on voting and views. The categories do have a great effect on how it's viewed and scored. LW is brutal and Incest/taboo have factions. Some cats are generous in votes, others aren't. I have two series out and they are primarily the same kind of story. One is in Celebs and the other in Novels and Novellas. I get far more views and votes, but harsher scoring in N & N, than I do in Celebs.

What category your story is in is important when evaluating every statistic.

And a vote to view ratio of 1% or less is the norm for most categories over time. When it first comes out, it may be higher, but over time, the spiders and bots that can't be filtered from the views number are going to steadily erode it.

OP's submissions here if anybody else wants to look them up:

One LW story with 2.62 & 28609 views.
One GM story with 3.67 & 5270 views.
One EC story with 4.32 & 9975 views.
One NC story with 4.51 & 12622 views.

So I don't think it's correct that your two lowest-rated stories have the highest number of views. The LW does have the most views, but the GM one has the fewest.

Like other posters have said, the view counts have a lot to do with categories. LW readers in particular are kinda messed-up; there seem to be a few obsessives who read the stuff just so they can complain about it and then 1-bomb it, and your story is going to push their buttons a treat. GM has fewer viewers.

The OP's talking about the vote to view ratio, not just the views.

It's entirely possible in LW to have assloads of votes and a high ratio with a crappy score. That's just the nature of the shark-pit that is Loving Wives.

The lower scoring GM story, because it doesn't have a lot of views, may also have a high ratio - especially riding on the spillover of hate from the LW crowd. Bonus 1-bombs to the GM story if the LW story has anything resembling a cuckold theme.

You're lucky to get a 3 or better in LW and GM readers can be picky. I took some time to look at the feedback comments and see what appealed and didn't. I wouldn't want to write in a category that was so divided, never knowing how well it actually was.

The others she seems to write well in, getting over 4.0 on both, so maybe that's her forte?

I'm primarily in LW and my "views"/"votes" ratio ranges from 0.91% to 2.24%. The percentage doesn't seem to correlate with the rating in any significant way.

I've always assumed that the big difference between views and votes was due to the fact that many will read a few paragraphs and decide "This is garbage - moving on." while only those who actually finishes the story will bother casting a vote. However Darkniciad's theory regarding spiders and crawlers could be part of the explanation too - they will register as a view but never vote.

Tell me about it...

Only over time, though. Early on, it's a matter of people back-clicking before reaching the end, and folks who were just looking for a quick wank who aren't interested in anything once they've reached that desired conclusion. While you're in the "honeymoon" period of a new story, regular readers should so vastly outnumber the spiders as to make them almost irrelevant.

My guess is that known spiders from search engines and social media sites are filtered from the number. It's the bad bots with false credentials that end up in our number.

Guesstimating from performance of the same stories across multiple sites ( some of which are members only to read full stories and register as a DL/view) compared with Alexa traffic stats, I'd say that 25% or less of our "views" are the spiders and robots that aren't filtered from the number.

Folks read it for the wank. When youre 18 you want one thing, and when youre 65 you want something else, cuz you've had enough sex by then to know its mostly phys ed for the price of a steak, two cocktails, and maybe a movie.

I have always done well in LW. Initially, the voting score was low, but over the long haul they would almost always get up over 4.5 and have a little red H behind them. At least until some troll noticed and started one bombing them. Ah the life of troll. Must be pretty boring under them bridges.

EC is always a good scoring cat, with few views.
GM...I don't do GM.
NC, I have scored well in NC.

As for ratio's, does any of it really matter, it only takes a couple of one bombs to through off the score and a lot of clicks on the link to bump up the views.

No one has mentioned another anomaly that seems to affect vote to view ratio, one that I noticed because Sandy submitted a 1 page and 3 page story this contest. The shorter the story, the more votes per view it seems to get. This could be due to the wankers and short-attention readers lasting to the end more often.

Both stories are in lesser traveled categories (and different from each other which might add to the deviation.)
Exhibition & Voyeur (1pg) - 21692 views, 172 votes - 0.79%
Romance (3pgs) - 15054 views, 65 votes - 0.43%

And if you really want your eyes opened, follow the first few votes on a new story. I had one out this morning.

One vote a score of 4.0. obviously a 4.

Three votes a score of 4.66. Add two 5's to the 4 and you get 14 divided by 3

Four votes a score of 3.75. Yes a one. :D

There will be three more along shortly. I love my trolls.
