This has probably been asked before, but I haven't found it. I have three stories in different stages of being written at the same time. Is this normal? Do most of my fellow authors have a number of stories in their computer file not completed and waiting to be finished.
Today was the first time I've been able to write on any of my stories and I realized just how much I missed doing it. Thanks for any and all comments!

I have snippets of story ideas, maybe 2-3 paragraphs of 4 or 5 stories written down. They're flashes of ideas I managed to capture. BUT, once I get going on a story, I'm very linear. Those are the only characters "talking" to me, until I finish that story.

You're not alone.

I currently have 5 in my "unfinished" folder. Some might be finished at some point - others might survive as part of another story...

I usually have at least 3 or 4 stories in some stage of "actively working" form. Right now, it's more like 6 or 7 that range from singles waiting for the finale to be added, to multi-chapter ones where the last chapter is on hold for various reasons.

Don't even get me started on how many plot bunnies I have running loose and wanting attention!

I started on a second chapter for The Manuscript while I was trying to get my muse to speak with me on finishing my New Life chapter.

I have two novels and two short stories that I'm working on now.

I also have a folder on the computer for snippets . . . paragraphs . . . that I tucked away because I was bored with them before they became more. Last count there were over a dozen documents in that folder. If I don't feel like writing on a current story, I often open one of these and add to it until I run into another dead end.

Over 50 in various states on my hard drive. Some as shorts as a thousand words or so, several with over 5 chapters, one at 13 chapters.

7 more continuation chapters to already published work.

Of course, it's taken me 12 years to get this bad.

I typically have a half dozen or so going. For some reason, I tend to finish them all on top of each other, rather than spaced out. I hit a good day or two when I can concentrate and wipe out large chunks of backlog.

Stuff that's just note files, back-burner brainstorms, cover images, etc. are too many to count.

Uh, go to my websites and take a look in the coming soon page. Each of those is around 20 - 30 thousand words in and I try to work on them everyday.

On my erotic site, I list only 4, but I know I have another 10 on my computer.

On my non-erotic site, I list 8 and know I have another 12 to 15 fleshed out and multiple chapters written.

And I must have a couple of dozen short stories laying around as yet unfinished or polished enough to be submitted...although I don't put them here.

My story file looks like a junk yard on a bad day.I have four files of unfinished stories.

Current

Newest

Stories

Unfinished stories

Between the four folders, around 200 stories under construction in one form or another.

And please don't open that Novel folder.

Now I have to kill ya.

No, i t is Not Unusual.

I have a file with approximately 50 story ideas. These consist of anything from a mere sentence to several paragraphs. They aren't stories that I have actually started writing, but concepts I wanted to preserve for future use.

I have three stories that I started to write but put away because they were not as fully developed as I thought. This is a rather new situation. A year ago I had no incomplete stories.

I am now nearing the end of chapter 2 of my current project. It will be three chapters when complete, at which time I will begin posting.

I'm in the same state as TxRad.

I have incomplete stories listed as 'Under 750' (words); 'Over 750' (words - which can mean up to 20,000 or more); 'Chapters Needed'; and 'New'. If I get stuck on a story in 'New' it is moved to either 'Under 750' or 'Over 750'.

Those categories are repeated for oggbashan and jeanne_d_artois.

For both pen names those four categories are repeated again by year: 2013, 2012, 2011, etc.

Total number of incomplete stories is several hundred.

Only one story has ever been totally abandoned - my first attempt at erotica that grew and grew. I edited it, revised it completely several times and finally said 'Sod it!'. I started writing it in Wordstar for C/PM and was saving it on 5.25 inch floppies.

Is that the one you sent me? (Which I have yet to open ....) I'm going to get to it one day! I swear. But I was hoping for something involving a lighter and more playful punishment than death .

I have my on-going werewolf story going on.

In the meantime that sly basturd SlycWillie keeps popping up with FAWCs and lures me into taking part in his story competitions.

Then I get a little idea which floats in my head while I sort out the schoolbag and iron uniforms until I can't bear it any longer and stay up till midnight writing it out.

There are probably about ten little ideas floating in my head right now but I stayed up till midnight last night and today I have to do marking. (That's why I'm on here procrastinating :))

I never work on one story at a time. Typically, I work on 12 to 24. I have an open list and go from one story to the next story as soon as my window of inspiration closes for that story. I never stare at a blank page. I'm always writing.

It's only when I'm sick to death reading the story over and again and when I no longer make any changes to the story do I post it to Literotica. I always thought that I was the only one working on a multitude of stories but from the comments above, I'm not alone.

Wow!

Thanks for all the comments and WOW! I'm glad I'm not alone! I don't have novels or other projects going at this time, but one is ruminating in my head. All my stories are for LIT. right now. One is a continuation, one is a surprise, and the other is a multi chaptered with chapter 1 finished and chapter 2 hanging. Won't post any of that one until it peters out.
Again thanks!
