Actually, no. If you got in early, people had no sense of what things cost. The game was $30 a month for unlimited use to begin with. It was TSN, The Sierra Network, the game was Shadow of Yserbius. That is entirely checkable. There were plenty of people who also got thousands of dollars of bills in charges they didn't expect to get.

Yup. Ulaven was my first tech support. I was gonna get a 10 meg hard drive and my first shiny new Cardinal modem.

Why was I computer savvy then? Because my dad was an IBM programmer and I got his hand-me down computers.

I'm actually nerdy enough to have kept the modem as a keepsake.

Yup. That was later. We progressed from The Sierra Network to MUDS. I lost track of him there for a while and when a friend of mine reconnected me to him, that's what he was doing. "Ran" as in was the leader of a guild that did a lot of killing and had a lot of sex.

I didn't go to that site. I just knew he was there through a friend.

See, even on Lit, people aren't fucking all the time in public. They go to the site and they hook up privately, and that's what he did. They use the game as the framework to roleplay, meet people and pair off. Just like here potentially.
