Quinn's Bar & Restaurant [OOC: Closed. PM for Invite.]

Ya know. I could have been a psychic. Hahahah! Hippy tie dye and crazy color hair and tarot cards. Woo! Maybe next time.

There's still time. Go for psychic/crazy cat lady. Always a win. :cattail:

Bah, who needs a cat? I'll be cool with a pony (that's really a unicorn) and a griffin gargoyle (that's not a statue).

I'm kinda attached to Tara at this point. However, quirky-crazed psychic will be on the list TBC. :cathappy:

Here's a crazy cat lady. Kinda. Lemme know if she needs any changes or anything.

okay, who hit the submit button...

Name: Nathaniel 'Nate' Osken

Age: 28

Hometown: Frankfort, Kentucky

Occupation: Live musician with no regular gigs, even as Quinn's has been asking him to come back more and more as time goes on, although like any artist, he has to go to whoever will pay. Plays an acoustic guitar (of which he has several), sings, and has a harmonica that he pulls out on 'special' occasions. Although nobody's really found a pattern in what a special occasion is to Nate.

Picture: Clicky clicky.

Personality: A remarkably soft spoken man for someone who can be so demonstrative in front of a microphone. As a performer, as someone sharing his heart, his words, his creations with whoever may be listening, he is open to anything, but once the case snaps shut the window into his soul seems to as well. That's not to say he doesn't smile, or talk; especially with fans. The nature of being a struggling musician means that you can't afford to make enemies. Literally speaking.

Generally favors playing for the afternoon/early evening crowd, on lighter days, avoiding the more rowdy nights when his dulcet tones and tales of lost love and heartbreak will go unwanted; where people want more then just subtle background music to fill their ears, tones to fill their day rather then to help them enjoy their meals.

He's shorter then a lot of men - standing about five foot ten - and his slim frame and hands hide the strength of conviction he carries when he believes he's right.

Has an audible southern accent.

History: When you hear him sing, you think you know him, have figured out everything about him by the heartbreak and emotions he sings about, strums about, has told you about. But watching him walk away from you awakens the realization that you know nothing about him at all...

Nate was a natural. That's what he was called the moment he picked up a guitar and picked at it. His parents enrolled him with every music instructor they could find, and while he took to their training - even in addition to normal schooling - in truth, it was an escape for him. Not from a difficult home situation; his parents were middle class, his brother and sisters great, and his neighborhood typical folks. But even at a young age, Nate seemed to know what his destiny would hold someday, as soon as he was able to make that decision.

So while his siblings worked, went to college, stayed in town, he packed up his guitar and wandered off, hugging his parents tight and telling them he needed to find himself. He wanted to find pain, to experience life, and not live the sheltered existence that had been provided for him. And he found it. Learning to love, lose it, and then love again, using his music and songs to express himself, trying to give to the world the stories and experiences they didn't have in their own lives. Warning them, encouraging them, making them cry, making them laugh, it is the very reason Nate set out to try to be a musician. Not to make it big in terms of fame, wealth or money - as could certainly be within his talent. All musicians have to believe that, or they will fail the moment they step onto the stage.

But everyone's searching for something. And even as Nate does his part to help everyone in their quest to find what they're looking for, he finds himself drawn back to the same place to find what it is he's looking for.

Nate is currently single. The trappings of fame certainly are not what draw women to him; and he has learned, after a time, to be careful to deduce what exactly it is people are after when they get to know him. The naive, innocent young Nate who left his Kentucky home has been replaced by one who is worldwise and cautious, the ever present smile on his face notwithstanding.

Even with as stoic as he is, he finds himself drawn to other quiet people, to know their stories, and help them express it, if possible. He has been known to talk to someone one night and sing a song about them the next, with nobody in the bar the wiser to what he could possibly be talking about...a message only for them, as it were, a tribute to what they are, or what they aspire to be.

Name: Tommy O'Brien
Age: 22
Hometown: St Louis, MO
Occupation: dishwasher/busboy at Quinn's
Picture: http://i1333.photobucket.com/albums...F88120-13893-00000CBD9308DC76_zps2765caf6.jpg

Personality: Tommy is one of those creative types that always seems off in another world. A writer at heart, having grown up reading Tolkien and Moorcock, his scribblings are typically fantasy related. He's also a talented artist and musician, and if he could ever focus enough on any one of his passions, he might be able to make a career of it. As it is, for now, he's happy enough enjoying the creative muse when she comes to hang out.

He's quite OCD, which makes scrubbing dishes a good gig; no blemish, no scrap of food, no stain escapes his notice, or his wrath. As such, the dishes at Quinn's are immaculate. This OCD haunts the rest of his life as well. His tiny studio apartment is spotless and ruthlessly organized. Unfortunately, he can also come off as a bit of an odd duck, so he doesn't have many (read: any at all) close friends. The disorder has kept him from finishing his fantasy novel, as well as keeping him from forming any meaningful relationship with any band that could use his impressive guitar skills... not that he'd be able to actually get himself up on stage in the first place.

The one place he does find some solace is playing fantasy games, particularly Magic: the Gathering. A beautiful, complex system that he's mastered, it's everything his brain craves: all the rules laid out before him, an ever-evolving and challenging gamestate, a chance to put his superior intellect to work to best his opponents. He plays every chance he gets, and writes extensively online, which helps him support his CCG addiction.

His other addictions... Well, let's just say the only way Tommy gets any relief from himself is by soaking his brain in alcohol and clouding it with marijuana. He is truly a tortured artist; his brain works in too many directions without chemical assistance to get anything creative accomplished. The drugs help his go with the flow, in his writing and on his guitar.

History: how does any midwestern boy wind up on the west coast? He followed a girl that he was madly in love with, basically running away from home at 19. It didn't last, of course, as his OCD proved too much for her to handle, and he made his way from San Francisco up to Seattle over the course of a year. He's landed here, and started working at Quinn's a month ago. It pays the bills well enough, and he likes the place quite a bit.

I foresee lots of cussing and evil eye that really means I love you my friend! Mwahahah

OKay, so to the musicians out there... Does anyone want to also play drums, sax, trumpet, bass, clarinet, tuba, etc? Though piano and two guitars or piano, guitar and bass can make a nice play session. Just wondering cause it would be cool to play with other players at some point. =)

Heh, I take a few hours to try and come up with a char and the spot gets taken. Ah well, I guess I'll have to wait my turn. After all, making a decent character always takes more than a little bit, if done right.

You posted last night, more than a few hours ago. :p There can be more than one position though.

I'm at a volleyball tournament, so I will add everyone to the OP when I get home. I think I'm waiting on one or two more. Then we can maybe start tomorrow on Monday, if everyone has something submitted. :)

Coolness. I have to wash a car here anyways, so it's gonna be just a little bit longer, but I'll get something up. :)

What night is going to be Karaoke night? =D It'll be hilarious....

It will be an interesting night. We got a lot of neat characters. I'm looking forward to see where it goes.

I'm sure my character could be talked into banging on some drums :)

I can't wait to get this RP going! After reading all the bios and knowing the quality of everyone's writing I just know that this is going to be one kick-ass story. :)

Angry drumming? =D

I think I'll have Tara pick up other instruments. The last thing I had noted was violin at 15. Several musician friends can play the gauntlet of instruments. It's kinda amazing! Oh there's trombone, trumpet, etc. Haha

Plus! It'll be fun to play different kinds of music. Tara's going to vary from classical, various jazz, blues, pop and rock.

Angry? Depends on how much everyone else has pissed him off. Probably more in the "technically brilliant and insane" area ;)

[size=-1]Name: Sofia Oliveira

Age: 28

Hometown: Miami, Florida

Occupation: Maitre'd / Hostess at Quinn's for the past 3 years

Personality: Punk rock meets modern elegance. Confident and head strong, Sofia runs the front-of-house with military precision. As a perfectionist, she holds her standards high, and expects those around her to meet them as well; lest there be hell to pay. This, paired with her meticulous attention to detail and no-nonsense attitude, easily warrants her as the "bitch on the warpath" amongst her co-workers. Sofia doesn't mind though, because when it's all said and done, no one can question her effectiveness at her job.

Gregarious by nature, she enjoys seeing what makes people tick, and considers herself a good judge of character. Often times, she'll ride new front-of-house staff until they're on the brink of breaking down, just to see what they can handle, before backing off (almost always with a smile).

For as stern as she can be with her co-workers, she always has their back when there's an altercation between staff and customer(s). Her voice of reason able to cool the hottest of heads, as well as cut down the largest of egos.

As social as she comes off, Sofia keeps her private life guarded, having perfected the art of conversation so that focus always circles back to the other party. Strategically answering questions with half-truths and general broadness.

She finds solace in practicing Yoga, and is a part-time alternative model (i.e. Suicide Girls).

History:
The road to excess leads to the palace of wisdom.

Born with a silver spoon, Sofia was born in the lap of luxury. With the unfortunate passing of her mother during childbirth, she was left as the only daughter to infamous business mogul, Giovanni Carvalho. As with most international entrepreneurs, his hectic schedule left Sofia's upbringing to be largely taken up by a team of caretakers and nannies. Her father making sure no expense was spared in providing his daughter the best of everything: schools, clothes, meals, private lessons for every extra-curricular activity under the sun, etc. Anything to compensate for his lack of being a present father.

Sofia spent her younger years trying to be the best daughter she could be: scoring high on academic tests, maintaining perfect school attendance, getting lead roles in ballet performances, nailing classical performances at her piano recitals...All in hopes to get recognition and praise from the one person that should've mattered most to her, and vice versa.

Around the time that she came to the conclusion that work was all that mattered to her father, she also came to realize that money could obtain, or even fix, well, anything. And if there was one thing that Giovanni Carvalho had plenty of, it was money. Needless to say, Sofia's rebellious teenage years saw no bounds.

It started with shoplifting, and seeing what she could get away with. On the few occasions she was caught, crocodile tears and a phone call from Daddy were all that were needed to wipe her slate clean. Sofia found that a lot of times, all she had to do was mention her father's name, and possibilities were laid before her. She could get away with anything.

Sofia was untouchable.

While still maintaining her "good girl" image, she sought the company of the "wrong" crowd. The thrill of the forbidden, leading her down a path of sex, drugs, and fresh ink on her body. All with no one the wiser...

Then the night came where her world clashed with her father's.

She and a group of friends were at the club, high as kites and drinking in the VIP suite. As things were getting heated, and clothes started coming off, Sofia excused herself to go to the bathroom. When she shut the door behind her, she heard the main door get driven open followed by a barrage of gunfire and screams. In a panic, she froze, barely registering her brain's command to hide in the closet.

While Sofia sat huddled behind the slated doors, she held her breath and prayed, as a man with a semiautomatic, opened the bathroom door to scan the room. Terror and paranoia tore through her, as she realized that the armed man, no more than a few feet from her, was no other than her own father.

Self-preservation forced her to stay exactly where she was, until the silence was deafening. Pure adrenaline then drove her to flee down the fire escape, to her car, and miraculously, back home.

Sofia packed some things, and fled as far as she could, eventually landing her in Seattle. Taking on her mother's maiden name, she lives modestly trying to turn her life around and repress her past.

This is the ONLY contemporary, non magical, non sci-fi or fantasy story I'm involved in. I was involved in two very briefly but had to cut it off cause I was bored.

WhooHOO! Going by the bios, it looks like we're going to a dungeon full of secrets. See my social face, thank you very much. Ya want more? You think you can get walk in and get it? *suckerpunch* Come back with more brains or manners and then we can talk.

Mwahahah---

StFornicate - You're an OCD, card collecting/playing, thorny brat who plays awesome music but doesn't play well with others. =P Of course it's angry. Besides, he's also probably terribly horny 22 yr old.

Yay! This'll be fun.

Thorny brat, eh? Not quite the direction I was aiming for lol.

But terribly horny, always ;)

Although I myself actually play the clarinet, I don't know if that'd be in Nate's blood to take any of those. It depends on how much retconning I could possibly justify and how much the GM (if I can call SortofBeautiful that) would let me get away with.

He's a bit of a lone wolf music wise, but with the number of musicians we have I'm pretty sure a group session is inevitable and he'll have to give in. Or, more to the point, I'll make him.

I'll also say the quality of writers and theme is partially what drew me here to give another group thread a try. Looking forward to writing with all of you.

Well if need be I am sure Sid can play the spoons or blow into a jug. After a few drinks.

Wee~~ it's nice to know that everyone is eager to play! =D Potentially wild times ahead: Check!

StFornicate - Duh! Tara is a whopping 2 years older, female and has lived a crazy life of experience. Of course your a thorny brat! :D ;)

Katt I'll depend on you to cause trouble. In general. In Tara's life. I mean.

Sings: That's what friends are foooor!

Bevatoria I'm hoping I'll see Nate performing one of those songs he makes up for a person he's gotten to know. And really, if bubbly Brooke pleads with you to play with others, I'm sure you would. ;)
