There has been a lot of debate over whether feminism is useless, evil, or simply misunderstood. Most Americans no longer identify as feminists even though they believe in equality.
What the hell happened to feminism?
Feminism, basically, has an identity problem. Its original purpose was to bring women’s rights to an equal footing with the rights of men. The movement was eventually hijacked by gender feminists - women who used feminism to achieve a host of special women-only privileges. For instance, a feminist created the Tender Years Doctrine, the infamous concept which directed court systems to automatically award custody of children to their mothers. Men chafed under this legal discrimination for decades before the doctrine was technically struck down in most US states. (The Tender Years Doctrine is still unofficially in effect everywhere - the courts now use different arguments to achieve the same effect.) Also, in another case, “feminists” in India fought back against a new law that would create a gender-neutral definition for rape - yet another fight for female privilege instead of equality. These are but a few examples of systemic oppression that women, under the banner of feminism, have brought about.
But this isn’t a problem that feminism has created for itself. Christianity has been marred by many terrible events - the Inquisition being the worst, and the anti-gay movement being one of the worst of modern times. Not all Christians subscribe to this, just like not all feminists subscribe to the gold rush for special female privileges.
The problem that feminism has mired itself in, is that when women posing as feminists do engage in systemic oppression, and when women engage in grossly sexist behavior, even the best feminists say nothing. Feminists protested when Rush Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke and Todd Akin made his idiotic “legitimate rape” comment, but when Saturday Night Live made jokes about Tiger Woods being a victim of domestic violence and Sharon Osbourne made fun of a man whose wife castrated him…. there were no mass protests… or any protests at all, except by men’s rights groups and maybe a handful of individual women.
Feminist groups protest whenever Carl’s Jr puts up a lady in a swimsuit, but there is no feminist uproar when TV commercials and sitcoms depict women beating up men - a clear case of domestic violence.
Feminist groups protest when women are raped and the rapist comes back for custody of the kid, but they do not protest when a woman rapes a boy and the boy is stuck with supporting the child that resulted from rape.
The majority of homeless are men. Most violent deaths happen to men. There are no feminist protests about this.
Notice a pattern here?
Systemic discrimination and acts of sexism against men are crimes against equal rights. Feminism watches it go right by and lets these bigots reside in their ideological safehouses without criticism. That’s called being an accessory after the fact and it is a crime. In this case it is a moral crime. It is also hypocrisy.
At some point feminists need to come to grips with the fact that they never get out and protest against anything except that which affects women. Yet they claim to be standing up for men’s issues?
