I guess there was a bad plane crash this morning, can't find details yet as it hasn't even hit the news. In Kenai, or Nikiski. Supposedly 9 dead, including the pilot carrying fisherman.

Edit:Soldotna. :( All aboard died.

An air taxi that crashed at an Alaska airport killed all 10 people aboard, the Associated Press said.

Nine passengers and the pilot died when the de Havilland DHC-3 Otter crashed in Soldotna, about 75 miles southwest of Anchorage, the AP reported, citing Clint Johnson, an investigator with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board...

The plane crashed at 11:20 a.m. local time yesterday, the agency said in an e-mailed statement, without mentioning casualties. Eric Weiss, a spokesman for the safety board, couldn’t immediately be reached by phone.

The aircraft was operated by Rediske Air, based in Nikiski, Alaska, the AP said, citing the Federal Aviation Administration. The aircraft was engulfed in flames before firefighters could reach it, the report said, citing an Alaska State Troopers spokeswoman who couldn’t immediately be reached by phone.

The victims haven’t been identified, the AP reported.

Bunches of plane crashes. A Beech Baron augered-in near Summit. A couple yahoo's fucked up flying in the mountains by Talkeetna. A flight was grounded on Ruth Glacier awaiting better weather for takeoff.

Pretty typical summer.

The Otter that crashed in Soldotna was the same type of rig, minus floats, that killed Uncle Ted.

I just saw a pic of some chick winning, have you ever climbed Mt Marathon?

Just for the view.

The real story is that Eric Strabel shattered Bill Spencer's record that held for 32 years. Strabel is a tough competitor and has #8 pinned to his shorts in the pic.

No money in it unless notoriety can get you a sponsor.

I should go to Seward more often. I've been for a aquarium field trip, pick up for cruisers, and a walk to the glacier and lunch at Rays.

Troopers seek sneaky moose murderer:

Alaska State Troopers reported Monday that a dead cow moose had been discovered in an area locally known as "moose pond" about four miles from the Nature Center at the end of Eagle River Road in the suburb north of Anchorage, shot more than once with .22-caliber rimfire ammunition. According to troopers, one of the shots pierced the moose's lungs and caused it to die. The perpetrator could face charges of illegally taking a moose during a closed season with improper ammunition, and wanton waste of meat. The moose was estimated to have been killed between 11:45 p.m. Saturday and 6:00 a.m. Sunday.
