It's gonna be a loooooong weekend, fellow United States of Americans. And in most places, a hot one. Party hearty--but responsibly. Meaning don't get too drunk (or let others get too drunk), stay hydrated, and don't (1) set things on fire with those fireworks (and also take care when lighting barbecues), or (b) shoot off guns because gravity will bring those bullets back down to earth. Please be especially careful when it comes to kids and sparklers/fireworks.

I'm up, and mostly awake, and after I'm even more awake I will go to the grocery store. Then some time at the pool, then perhaps some fireworks later tonight. A quiet day, it would seem. And oddly, there's not even rain in the forecast.

RI only recently smartened up and allowed the sale of Fireworks in the state.

Every other year we would take the ride to NH to buy some, it was nice to just pull over to the side of the rode to where they had a big tent set up and get it here.

As an ex-pat with a non-US fella, Happy Independence Day to my fellow US-ians. I know, it's a little nitpicky, it's also something that's been ingrained over the last ten years of living away from home.

Should have gone on the 3d but I was too tired. Plus, with Mr Penn off, I should be able to go by myself, which will be faster and easier. To my surprise, the grocery store is open regular hours (6am-midnight); I expected limited hours today. We are in serious need of milk if nothing else. Two kids go through milk pretty quickly.

Actually the zoo today would be the liquor stores. They have one near me that does so much biz on a regular weekend they need a traffic cop. Today will be a nightmare, I won;t even go down that road.

I'm hoping that our grocery store was also a zoo yesterday, leaving it to be less crowded today. We shall see. My other option is to go to the Super Walmart but quite frankly, I don't want to drive that far. Even though it's not that far.

Fireworks display ratings?

Would love to hear about any fireworks you're setting off in your own backyard or displays put on by your city. I have to live vicariously here as I've no backyard to set off my own, and my area had such traffic jams when there was a city fireworks display (every street was locked up tight with cars, and every sidewalk mobbed with people), that the city stopped putting them on.

So, outside of listening to everyone else's story, I'll be enjoying fireworks by trying to catch sight of displays put on by other, nearby towns (I can usually see the big ones from my balcony). Not the best way to watch fireworks, but better than fighting traffic on the drive to such places, motoring for hours about a lot looking for parking, and then getting into gridlock afterwards.

From the looks of the sky and what I hear rumbling over the Blue Ridge, Mother N may be supplying our fireworks tonight. It would be a "pity" if I were trapped in the garden pavilion this evening and couldn't do anything but listen to the rain and take a nap.
