Pretty much. Or pedant maybe? I've been fiddling with an image file for about 24 hours now in order to make it look "perfect." Every time I think I have it, some other idea blossoms in my brain. :rolleyes:
 
I know how much HP enjoys the occasional insight these blurts offer into the mystic world of academic line management :rolleyes:. And any feedback on whether I'm justified in feeling a bit stymied in this situation would be gratefully received.

So, I ask if I can change the date of one of my tutorials - you may remember that a big kerfuffle ensued when I previously asked if I could merely change the time. This is a really necessary change, but nevertheless a stream of emails from my line manager ensues, Can I not do it this way, How about if I talk to the students and get their opinion on when and whether I should go, Could I not give the tutorial two weeks after the deadline of the assignment which I am supposed to teach about (no, I am not joking, she did suggest that).

At the same time, we have a day event coming up this Saturday. I suddenly realised I have no idea what I'm doing at that event. I email privately saying, What is going on? Then one of the other tutors emails all of us saying, What is happening on Saturday? The line manager emails back to say, we talked about this previously, haven't you kept notes on it yourself, I am away at the end of the week so don't even try to contact me after Wednesday.

I've finally found out what I can teach by virtue of volunteering an idea. I still have no idea what time I'm supposed to be teaching, and to which groups of students.

Is it weird, that this makes me feel disinclined to do my work, that I just want to hang around my kitchen and make cups of tea and not even look at my email? never mind get on with filling in a stupid form about how I support all of my students, which I do anyway but now they want a form filled in about it. (I have no idea when the form is supposed to be submitted of course.)

Most of those shows are filmed in Canada, and I don't think you live in Canada, so...

Naoko, I'm not sure exactly what a line manager is, but that all sounds completely ridiculous and unprofessional. Why do they have to try at every turn to make your job more difficult? And then blame you for it?

I would react the same way, with an utter lack of motivation. It must be hard to care about the aspects of your job when no one else seems to.

I'll join you in a cup of tea! Do we have something strong we can put in?

Thank you for that! I do feel unmotivated when this is the 'support' I get. I love the students and really try hard for them, but I just want to sulk off and play Bingo when I have to waste time on things like this. It almost puts me off flirting. Uh, I said almost. ;)

At least now I'm part of a team. We don't say anything, because we're all nervous the cr@p management will sack us for it, but we LOOK at each other sometimes.

I had to laugh when I read your post, because my (now) seven-year-old's favorite saying is "this is the best ____ ever," with the blank being filled in by day, dinner, show, store, toy, play park, restaurant, whatever. ;)

Given all this oh so very helpful advice concerning my apparently never ending quest for just the right color, I am trying to decide if eating nothing but foods in the desired color range will aid or thwart the decision making process.
