Rats! It's both computers. Guess who's going to be randomly pushing buttons on the router tomorrow.

Unplug it for thirty seconds, then plug it back in. Mine does the same thing, and unplugging it has the effect of rebooting the system. It might help.

Usually works for me as well.

Threatening to do things seems to have had the same effect. For the moment, it's running fine. Once again, inertia is my friend.

-sigh- every single time I sit down to write, the cats seem to known and instantly one appears to interrupt.

And now it looks like our A/C is on the fritz... just what we need in the middle of a 90+ degree heat wave...

I missed the upshot of the van story. Hope it worked out OK.

Thanks, we're still working on it. I'm actually not sure what the plan is. We could sell it for scrap, get it fixed and keep it or sell it, donate it and probably more options. I know Mr Penn was considering doing the minimum to get it drivable and then possibly sell it, but we'll see.

Then, just today, our house A/C stopped working for no reason we can see. Luckily they will send someone out tomorrow morning. Unluckily that conflicts with PennBoy's first playoff game. I mean, he can go but I may have to miss it.

And I hate to say it, but I wish PennGirl's t-ball game tonight would get canceled. We could just use the time to catch our breath.

The UPS guy just delivered a new box from the satellite company. I wonder if they were really serious about that Handle with Care! warning label. I kinda dropped it when I brought it into the house.

Naah, they just put those labels on to wind up the UPS guys...

The last chapter of my 2004 story Pantomime Dwarf has just been posted.

Apart from a few lines it is exactly as I wrote it then. I was going to revise and rewrite the whole thing, but 9 years on I'm not the same person I was then.

If I were to try to rewrite it, it would either be a completely different story, or I would be more likely to scrap it. I'll leave it alone as an early Jeanne work.

Do you look back at stories you wrote years ago and think: "What was I drinking/smoking/snorting?".

No. It's usually "Smoking, drinking and/or snorting while reading would probably greatly improve one's appreciation of this story."

The A/C has been fixed; turns out it was a crushed flexible duct but the guy was able to cut out the crushed section and reattach the rest. Yay. The van still sits in Maryland.

I'm afraid it's spreading -- PennBoy had a baseball game this morning, and when Mr Penn called to check in, he told me that the fields had not been lined (and there were three games) and there were no umpires. I did talk to him again and although the fields had still not been lined, they did have an umpire. However, he was a neutral one borrowed from (I'm guessing) another team; the scheduled umpire's car broke down... Ye gods.

The new satellite box {the one I dropped} works fine. Well, I think it does. The HDMI cable from the television won't connect {I think part of it may still be inside the old box.} so I can't be sure, but all the lights work.

Come on, you didn't Really imagine that the replacement would be a plug swap, did you ?.
Ah, but the new one has all these improvements, don't it, including new plugs ?

The daft so&so at the other end should have asked. . . .

Thus far, the score is HDMI cables 2: good little witch 0. Yes, I have destroyed not one, but two cables trying to do what is, I'm sure, usually a very simple installation. The metal jacket protecting the teeny tiny prongs insists on remaining behind when the cable is moved. The real pain is that it's about an hour away to get another cable.

I'll go back tomorrow, return the latest one and get another. I may get two.

I have just returning from a movie presentation of Shakespeare's Globe Theatre production of Henry V.

I know it is a Monday night and the kids have just gone back to school but...

There were only three of us. My wife, me and another elderly man.

It was a fantastic performance. But why only 3 of us?

Asparagus, salmon, spiced carrots and flourless chocolate cake.
That was a wonderful dinner, just what I needed! thank you!:rose::rose::rose:

The Kenneth Branagh version? I remember seeing that for Theater 101 back in college.

I can now claim victory! The new satellite box has been installed, new cables attached and the television works as intended. Of course I haven't ventured downstairs to see if the other set is working and I still haven't returned the old box yet.

Next project: Take apart the old DVD/VCR player and see if I can get the VHS tape that's been stuck in there for over a year out.

Seems like you're having an interesting week with household appliances, glynndah!

Blurt: That movie was so good for my soul. :)

It's all a ruse to avoid actually cleaning anything.

Sh! Don't tell anyone.

What movie? My soul could use something good.

I'm all for ruses. Or procrastination, which is the same thing really.

Movie: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Hindi.
