I am wondering how long it took some of you experienced writers to write that first erotic story. I've talked with a few people, and have been told anywhere from 2 weeks to about 2 days. I would like to get a little broader spectrum of times, just to see what I'm getting myself into! Thanks!!!

My first story (Teaching Patti) took a few months -- but it was a seven chapter story, and I wanted a bit more plot and character development than I had read in previous works, so it took a lot of polishing and writing and cutting and working back and forth between the episodes to make sure everything connected (still--there are a few continuity mistakes, like appearing and disappearing underwear, but what the hey).

And, as I had no experience with erotica, I found myself writing seven or eight pages of great exposition, with nary a lustful moment, so I had to go back and do same paring -- cutting a lot of extraneous (though nincely written) description ("It was a dark and stormy orgy...")

Also, "Patti" was something I wrote in my spare time, away from my more "legit" writing projects (in a darkened basement with a towel over my head so no one could see...).

The second piece (Jazzy Girl) took about the same amount of time, but that's because I decided to keep in all the extraneous description and exposition this time, to see if anyone would mind. And, again, it was something I did "on the fly". (Why does that sound obscene?)

So, if I were to have written my first piece straight through, with no other projects distracting me, I don't think it would have taken that long, maybe a couple of weeks (with the requiste breaks to throw water on my face or make feverish love to my wife).

Good luck with whatever you're working on. Happy fantasy.

It depends on what you mean by story - do you mean just one story posted or a whole mini-novel with several chapters/parts added on every day or so (like DCL's story)?

The few parts I wrote of my story only took a few hours to write all together but that was written just a imitation of the usual style here. I wasn't very happy about it, didn't spend much time on it and am planning a bigger one to come.

If you know what you're going to write about and have a plan written out and structured, then it shouldn't take too long, it depends on how much detail you want to put in it. Good luck.

Most of my stories do not take a long time to write. In many cases the story is written in a few hours. But I edit and such, which adds another few hours to it, overall.
I tend to get the image of everything in my head and write from there ... as if I am describing the visions I see in my head, and the feelings I imagine would happen if I were truly in those scenarios. (A fantasy!)
A lot of my "plot" comes from a mixture of reality and fantasy, as I imagine a lot of writers' does. So I am merely desribing, rather than writing (In its very basic sense). (Although I pay great attention to my grammar and spelling)
But I HAVE noticed, while re-reading some of my older stories, that I have missed following "s"s and such ... I guess because when I was reviewing them the first 20 times I just kept getting caught up in the story!!!

If I ever get around to finishing this story, this site is definetly where it will be posted, but time doesn't allow for much writing at the moment!!

My first story probably took years, but that was 40 years ago. A few of my stories, erotic and otherwise, are excerpts from my novel, so that, as they say, is another story.

LOL, my story took about thirty years. It started as an epic romance and has ended up an epic romantic bodice-ripping sex romp that still badly needs editing (it isn't published on here!).

Sometimes I get inspired and dash a story off very quickly. Sometimes the ironing and cooking catches up with me.

I do a bit of editing and I find that greatly helps give me a perspective on writing. :rose: the lovely writers I edit for.

And I have an editor now myself for my current set of stories. The best!. Getting an editor to advise and encourage you is really good too.

Good luck!
:nana:

PS, if anyone comes and starts fighting in your thread ignore them. Hopefully there will be a spam thread again soon and I will make fritters and pancakes so everyone parties instead of fighting ;)

My first attempt at an erotic story took at least ten years.

It isn't finished and probably never will be. It grew and grew and became an unmanageable monster. I edited it down to a reasonable size but it is and was a bad story.

It still lurks on my hard drive accusing me.

The second and third took about six months, soon followed by about ten more in the next six months.

But my advice is simple.

Don't ask - just write!

Why are 1999 threads being resurrected from the dead?

OMG, you're right! I was so busy hurriedly trying to help while getting the ironing done that I didn't notice this thread is REALLY old.

I hope you finished that story already! Tess22. Someone should go and check and tell us if it was any good.

Uh, sorry, not me, got to clean the bathroom now! Let me know if it had safe sex. ;)

I think I wrote mine in one sitting, it was short & it was a fantasy I had played out thoroughly in my brain before I sat down at the keyboard to let it out.

The only thing I can think of is maybe they show up on Google somehow.

I can't see someone digging through hundreds of pages to find a 14 year old thread.

My first took a few hours for the first draft then two days to make it readable:rolleyes:

My first erotic writing (essentially chapter 1, "On the Trunk of a Car," of House on Park, serialized here, and soon to be rereleased in the market in expanded version) was written in about twenty minutes as a surprise take out from a scene I was writing for a mainstream mystery. I was writing the scene, my mind suddenly wanted to go dirty with it, and I let it flow--then extracted it from the mystery I was writing and set it off on its own journey.

Time is relative. It doesn't matter how long. It matters how well.

'nuff said.

My first story was written over 6 years ago and sat collecting dust. I just had it approved and posted for readers on Lit. I have other short stories that need to be completed so I can share them. It's finding the time to sit and hash it out and then edit it.

I agree with others, it can take a few hours to just write it out or a few days when real life steps in the way.

It's not easy to keep the nose to the grind stone sometimes...knowing there are folks out there that enjoy what I write keeps me going.
