I've read somewhere that the glue on Israeli postage stamps is certified kosher.

Are stamps in Vatican city baptized?

wrong analogy, i'm afraid.

kosher law is very, very particular. i've got a friend who has orthodox rabbinic training who put it to me this way: the bible is where kosher law starts but there's whole libraries full of thought on the interpretation of kosher law. it's some very esoteric stuff for the uninitiated.

and being kosher for passover is a whole other standard.

one would expect that self-adhesive stamps would be very popular in israel. i'm not sure if that's the case but would love to know if anyone has that information.

They are, where you can get them. :)

I have a business acquaintance who is a maintenance supervisor for a commercial bakery, where cookies, muffins, and other such goods are produced.

They have a separate factory where the same goods are produced, only kosher.

They have a rabbi on staff who oversees the processes, and even the grease that is used to keep the machinery parts moving is certified kosher. If something that is not certified kosher comes into contact with anything along the assembly line, the plant is shut down.

I’ve tasted baked goods from both plants and can assure everyone, kosher cookies taste no different than their non-kosher counterparts.

You can buy kosher Easter candy which always struck me as rather odd.

hey there glynndah, nice to see you in HT!

emerson: although i'm a nontheist, i think it's cool as all get out that the factory has such delightfully stringest practices in the event of contamination.

I think the only kosher thing I get is Vlasic kosher pickles. They're delicious!

In Catholicism, baptism is a ritual meant to save the soul of the subject (it cleanses the recipient of original sin, and inducts the individual into the Church, among other metaphysical things). Stamps aren't believed to have souls, as far as i know. So, no. They might be blessed, it seems like Catholics will bless just about anything.

Catholics don't really have dietary restrictions like keeping Kosher (the fish on Fridays thing is about it - even that's only technically required during Lent, these days).
