Michele Bachmann, a profile in courage.

Raw Story:

Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota on Tuesday refused to answer questions about a recent speech she gave at a conservative conference.

Bachmann claimed at the Conservative Political Action Committee on Saturday that Obama was living in opulence at the White House. She alleged the President was enjoying an excess of tax-payer funded luxuries.

But when confronted by CNN reporter Dana Bash, the Republican congresswoman refused to elaborate on her remarks. Bash was forced to keep pace as Bachmann briskly walked away, insisting her speech was about the attack in Benghazi. Bachmann even turned the questions against the CNN reporter, chiding her for talking about Obama’s White House budget rather than Benghazi.

“But you’re the one who brought it up,” Bash responded as Bachmann raced off.

quickhits:

Not surprisingly, the report tells us “that several of Bachmann’s claims of excess were untrue. He noted that by her own estimates Obama was actually spending $2 million less than Bush and the allegation that the President hired a designated dog walker was simply false.”

But how stupid is the argument anyway? Are we supposed to believe that Ronald Reagan and GWB lived in tar paper shacks on the White House’s back lawn, eating only what they could forage from local birdfeeders? And how could this possibly have any damned thing to do with Benghazi?

No wonder Shelly took off running when asked about it. If we had more reporters actually challenging politicians on their lies, we see a lot more politicians hightailing it away from intrepid reporters. And that in turn would mean we’d see a lot fewer dishonest Republicans.

CNN’s Dana Bash: reporting done right.

Let's not let kids tour the White House, inspect our meat, or plow the highway through Yellowstone, but let's do this!

The Dow is looking to dance with 15k. Should we bump Vetteman's posts about how the market will never have faith in Obama?

So, in Cypress if you have $200,000 in the bank, you have to give up $80,000 to the government, eh? People who have that much in the bank there are 60% of the available deposits. What happens when they move their assets off shore? I hope they rise up and kill off their government.

No chance in hell of that happening, catfish.

Cyprus is the offshore location of choice for tax-dodging Russian oglioarchy intent on gaming the Russian tax code. They have zero recourse against the Cyprus government. Virtually all uninsured (over 100K euros) are Russian.

EU diplomats said the president, flown to Brussels in a private jet chartered by the European Commission, had fought to preserve the country's business model as an offshore financial centre drawing huge sums from wealthy Russians and Britons.

Hey dumbass, do you think the Tea Party mob mentality is exclusive to you low-information types here in America?

I'm sure quite a lot of people in Cyprus don't know the details of the final bailout, they probably just heard the old "everyone gets a 6.75% haircut" and they're panicking.

Bush-class misleadership in Cyprus.

Every family needs a favorite pastime, their’s just happens to be taking luxurious taxpayer-funded vacations.

Dem Strategist: It’s “Small” To Question Biden’s $585,000 One Night In Paris…

We’re not the ones who fear mongered over the sequester cuts.

President Obama’s signature health-care law, which turned three over the weekend, has already accounted for $31.3 billion in regulatory costs and liabilities, as well as 71.5 million hours of paperwork, according to a study from the American Action Forum (AAF) released Monday.

It would take more than 35,000 full-time employees working year round to fully comply with the monstrous Red Tape Tower the law has become.

Those figures have grown substantially since last year’s AAF review of Obamacare’s regulatory impact, which found that the law had imposed $12.4 billion in costs and roughly 50 million paperwork hours, indicating a sharp increase in the law’s burden on the economy as many of its chief components begin to come online.

Although the Obama administration has long argued that insurance companies would bear the brunt of costs associated with new health-care regulations, the study argues that individuals and small businesses are likely to feel the impact in some form.

Pending regulations that would mandate nutrition labeling could cost more than $750 million, impose 2.6 million paperwork hours, drive up foods prices, and cause some businesses to forgo certain food products, the study found. The administration has identified $0 in quantified economic benefits for the rule, yet has conceded that a potential consequence could be that “consumption of these foods will fall, further reducing profits for some, or all, of these establishments.” Another proposed rule would require businesses to account for the value of food served at meetings, at a cost of $1.9 billion and 8 million hours of paperwork.

The report notes that by the administration’s own estimates, Obamacare contains nearly a dozen regulations that would significantly impact small businesses, at a cost of $1.9 billion and $11.3 million hours of paperwork. The reality is almost certainly greater, and will continue to grow as more aspects of the law are implemented in the coming months. “If past is prologue, the 2014 report on ACA burdens will catalogue higher costs, more paperwork, and additional layers of red tape on the U.S. healthcare system,” the study concludes.
