Gun control works.

A bloody weekend in which seven people were killed and six wounded has put an abrupt end — at least for now — to hopes that Chicago was at least putting a lid on its frightening homicide rate.

With a few days left in the month, the nation's third-largest city now finds itself on the cusp of its deadliest January in more than a decade. The news comes just after Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy had announced that after several violent months, Chicago had seen a drop in homicides at the end of 2012 and for the first few weeks of 2013.

Police say the homicide rate is a reflection of the city's gang problem and a proliferation of guns. Chicago has for years tried to cut off the flow of guns. It has what city officials have called the strictest handgun ordinance in the U.S. But police officials say more needs to be done, and that penalties for violating gun laws should be stiffer.

Afghanistan is safer.

The Democrat Party completely controls Chicago and Cook County at all levels. It's a one-party town and has been for over 50 years.

Maybe 2013 can be another record-setting year in homicides.

Go criminals!!!

they should make PP in charge

THEN

the murder rate will seem paltry

I really hate that misconception.....put everyone in 1114's, full body armor and living in bunkers see what happens to the homicide rate. Now take into account that MOST guys who get hit live b/c of all our new personal protection technology but are all fucked up to the tune of almost 8k dead and over 32k injury casualties (FUBAR) and some 170k permanently physically disabled despite the tech. Add all that up and without the armor/tech our death tolls for this war would have been every bit as staggering as vietnam.

285,000 cases of traumatic brain injuries from IED's in Iraq alone...with out the gear most would have fucking died at 1/2 as close a range to a dozen 155 rounds strung together and set off.

Chicago doesn't have shit on the 3rd world k?

^^ saved lives....did not reduce rate violence or make AO any safer.

Pity they can't make Chicago as safe as it was when Capone was in charge.

Gun control works to disarm the law abiding, not the criminal element. All gang members should be shot on sight, like they have been all down through our history. We knew what to do with Murder Inc., The Purple Gang, The Dalton Gang, The James Gang, The Dillinger Gang, Bonnie and Clyde, Geronimo, Billy The Kid. Truth is Liberalism allows these assholes to thrive, it is a threat to civilization.

How do these criminals get guns?

What's with all the mental disorders in soldiers nowadays? Are they softer than previous generations of warriors?

They hand make them.

Lower standards due to a volunteer system instead of a draft, better doctors (and broader diagnosis parameters. Check autism amongst the general population for an example), better medicine keeping people who would have died before alive and a more competitive world overall. It's also increasingly difficult to ignore them.

Even in this market you're only going to get so many people who want to die for things that have very little if anything to do with themselves. Those who can afford college without risking life and limb aren't going to so you can bring back the draft if you like but otherwise that's just part of life.
