What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

I'll just bet, that both parties are working very hard on fixing the Economy as we speak, no their not Christmas shopping or planning a Winter vacation, but toiling over facts and figures to straighten the mess they(and that's BOTH parties)have put us, the "little people" in.
Hell, I think, I'll send them all a nice, Christmas Present.

They may, but I doubt they'll have any more luck pushing through a conservative Christian theological agenda than they have in the past.

Not to mention that if they were to go by what the Bible actually says, then the "conservative" opposition to social welfare would vanish. Christians would do well to read the words of Christ rather than listen to the words of men telling them what Christ really meant.. The "Red Letter" Christians have the right idea.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. - Mahatma Ghandi

As many in the Dominionist movement consider themselves Christians, it's obvious they've never read the Bible or aren't too familiar with it. Personally, I think they are heretics as they obviously prefer the Old Testament over the New. Dominionists haven proven that regardless of their religious views, the ends justifies the means and that is Old Testament thinking.

Massive Revenue Loss Follows California Tax Hike Vote

During the recent election, Gov. Jerry Brown and supporters of Prop. 30 assured voters that there was no chance whatsoever that raising taxes again would drive away any of the state’s businesses or millionaires.

Brown even commissioned a study from the Stanford Center on Poverty and Inequality that found millionaires would rather stay put than let a little thing like government thievery drive them away.

The media backed that up with stories assuring readers that California could choke the rich, no problem.

State Controller John Chiang announced Friday afternoon (the traditional time for not getting stories covered) that the state’s revenue for November came in $806.8 million under projections. That’s more than 10% under budget for the month.

Whoops.

Although Chiang’s office did not comment on the whole “rich flight” issue, the breakdown of the trouble is an $842.5 million plunge in personal income taxes, $187.8 million decrease in corporate taxes, offset by an increase of $99 million in sales taxes. The sales tax rise probably has a lot to do with increasing consumer costs in the not-so-Golden State, although it wouldn’t be surprising if some of it was from happy liberals going on a binge after the election.

Will reality finally soak in to the spending-addicted brains of liberal voters and politicians? Not likely. Liberals’ dogma dies hard.

More likely what will happen is that Sacramento will go through another round of trying to raise taxes; then threatening to fire teachers, cops and firefighters if voters don’t go along; then putting another tax hike on the next available ballot. When that doesn’t work, even the mighty unions probably won’t be able to stop job losses. Meanwhile, revenues will continue to plunge, unemployment begin rising again, politicians still won’t cut the real fat and voters still will be voting Democrat.

Things can get a whole lot worse still before they get better.

With any luck though, California may have reached the tipping point at which even the liberal millionaires who infest the state will begin to leave. All the unemployed workers they leave behind would then have the choice of waking up and finally booting out the leeches from Sacramento or following their former employers out of state.

Either way, California would be likely to wind up a much poorer, though ultimately better off, state. One can only hope as California continues its slow slide into the sea.

MICHAEL BARONE: Soul-Crushing Dependency.

“This is painful for a liberal to admit,” writes liberal New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof, “but conservatives have a point when they suggest that America’s safety net can sometimes entangle people in soul-crushing dependency.”

Kristof is writing from Breathitt County, Ky., deep in the Appalachian mountains, about mothers whose Supplemental Security Income benefits will decrease if their children learn to read. Kristof notes that 55% of children qualifying for SSI benefits do so because of “fuzzier intellectual disabilities short of mental retardation,” far more than four decades ago when SSI was just a new program.

Evidently SSI administrators decided to be more generous to parents of such children. But, as Kristof notes, giving parents an incentive to keep children from learning to read works against the children’s long-term interest.

Kristof’s column makes a point similar to that in my De. 2 Examiner column on the vast rise in people receiving Social Security Disability Insurance payments. As with SSI, one imagines that those responsible for extending benefits to those not previously eligible did so out of a sense of generosity. But as I noted, “there is also a human cost. Consider the plight of someone who at some level knows he can work but decides to collect disability payments instead. That person is not likely to ever seek work again, especially if the sluggish recovery turns out to be the new normal. He may be gleeful that he was able to game the system or just grimly determined to get what he can in a tough situation. But he will not be able to get the satisfaction of earned success from honest work that contributes something to society and the economy.” Generosity that produces “soul-crushing dependency” is not really generosity.

No, it’s not about generosity. It’s about power. They’ll turn us all into beggars ’cause they’re easier to please.

JIGGERY-POKERY: Jobs Data Remain At Recessionary Levels: “And by the way, remember those big payroll gains in September and October, right before the election? Forget it. The Labor Department has revised down its job estimates for those two months by 49,000. . . . And it may get worse. The quarterly Wells Fargo/Gallup small-business survey found that 21% plan to cut jobs over the next six months — a surge from 10% last June and a record high.”

THE NARRATIVE CHANGES AS POLITICS REQUIRE: Opponents of the Bush tax cuts have done a silent flip-flop on whether those cuts helped the middle class. “Why a silent flip-flop, instead of overt? Because the explanation is a bit uncomfortable: calling the Bush cuts ‘tax cuts for the rich’ was a rhetorical goldmine in support of a political message. It was a terse, persuasive slogan, pithier than the truth that the Bush policy was actually progressive tax cuts for all taxpayers; recasting it as ‘tax cuts for the rich’ was therefore more effective at helping the Left win elections. Fair enough; that’s politics. The Left outfoxed its tax-cutting opponents by employing better rhetoric. But now, in late 2012, the political message must shift, because the looming expiration of the Bush tax policy is a real financial threat to the middle class — and therefore a political threat to any politician who fails to defend the middle class.”

Elizabeth Warren Refuses To Back Obama’s Fiscal Cliff Plan…

Via The Hill:

Newly elected Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) declined to endorse President Obama’s “fiscal cliff” proposal to Congress.

In an interview with the Boston Globe, Warren played it safe and declined to endorse any plan to prevent scheduled tax hikes and spending cuts next year that economists warn could trigger a recession.

“I don’t know how to answer the question,” she told the Globe. “Let’s see what they’ve got.”

Warren offered aspects of a deal she had already outlined on the campaign trail — higher taxes on top earners, the elimination of oil and agriculture subsidies and cuts to military spending — but also said she’d support “technocratic” changes to Medicare, which she declined to explain further.

The Top 10 Things to Say to an Obama Voter Who Just Got Laid Off

1. “Hey, at least that successful Mormon businessman didn’t win.”

2. “Didn’t your lady parts warn you this would happen?”

3. “Look at the bright side. Gay marriage passed in four states.”

4. “Hey, Big Bird still has a job. Isn’t that the important thing?”

5. “I am sure Obama cares deeply about your situation. Maybe he’ll send you a postcard from Hawaii.”

6. “Well, look at the bright side. Rush Limbaugh is getting a massive tax increase.”

7. “Hey! Now you’ll have more time to play with your unicorn.”

8. “Isn’t it worth losing your job to know that religious organizations now have to pay for abortions and contraceptives?”

9. “Well, now you and Keith Olbermann have something else in common.”

10. “Forward!”
