What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Vette, do you have actual reporting on this or just two conservative blogs? And one of the blogs says the WSJ recently reported that there was a ban on 11.5 million acres but they did no such thing. They hosted an op-ed piece where the author said that but they did not report it at all. There's a huge difference between opinion pieces and actual journalism, not that you ever make the distinction.

We need to expand the Dept. of Interior and the Bureau of Land Management, since big government is what Republicans want.

Drilling permits are down 35% on Federal land son, Google it.

According to the BLM link Busy just posted, the number of drill bores on federal lands is at an all-time high of 90,452. Additionally during the Obama administration the number of wells set a new record each year.

The number of oil-producing acres has remained constant since about 2005.

The number of new leases dipped when the recession happened exactly the same way they dipped during the Bush recession. The number of new leases under Clinton was as high as 4,528 then Bush came in and we had a recession where new leases dropped to 2,022. Does your narrative also say that Bush cut oil drilling by 56%?

So Romney had it wrong last night?

Or do you?

Total number of permits in:
2007: 48,993
2008: 55,085
2009: 53,431
2010: 50,544
2011: 49,173

So compared to 2008 it's a 10.75% decrease in the number of permits. I don't see any data on the number of permits applied for to see if applications are being denied or there have just been fewer of them made during the recession when oil was in low demand.

oil demand is stagnant past 10 yrs

try again

Oil on federal lands

Claim: Romney said drilling on federal lands is down 14% under Obama.

Facts: By most measures, the federal land open to energy production is down. From 2008 to 2011, according to the Bureau of Land Management, active oil and gas leases are down 3%, acres under lease are down 19% and drilling permits are down 35%. The widely cited 14% figure -- the amount of oil produced from federal lands -- reflects a one-year period following the 2010 Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. The Obama administration instituted a temporary moratorium on deepwater drilling after the incident.

Do you have any facts about applications being denied at an increasing rate? Or the number of applications made in the first place by year?

Two Facts That Are Bigger Than the Debate

While the media world is abuzz with last night’s Presidential debate, I’d like to cut through the noise and present you with two truly staggering facts that need to be kept in mind as the backdrop for the US Presidential Election

Fact #1: EU leaders have stated point blank that they were asked to keep things quiet until after the election.

Regardless of your party affiliation, social views or the like, we have to ask ourselves “what was promised in return?”

If you’ve been reading me for some time, you know by now that the EU is in massive trouble. Spain is currently drawing over €400 billion from the ECB.

Let’s put this number in perspective… in June before Spain requested a €100 billion bailout, the country was drawing only €300 billion from the ECB.

Since that time and now, the ECB has promised to provide unlimited bond buying… and even Germany has indicated it would be open to some sort of a Spanish bailout…

And yet, Spain is now borrowing even MORE than it was in June.

This is not progress in any way… if anything it indicates that things are worsening in the EU’s financial system at a staggering pace. The powers that be are keeping things calm until after the election… at which time there will be absolute hell to pay.

And we Americans are going to be on the hook in one form or another. Something was promised in exchange for the EU keeping things quiet. And we won’t find out what it is until after November 6

Fact #2: China is facing a severe downturn if not outright collapse.

As I’ve stated many times before, the China economic “miracle” is in fact one colossal Government funded fraud. While the media attempts to spin China as still growing, executives over there have stated that in fact things are far worse than is publicly known.

Many economists expect the Chinese government to announce Thursday that economic growth in the third quarter was barely short of the official target of 7.5 percent. But Chinese business executives said that the reality was worse for many companies selling in the domestic market, leaving considerable room for a rebound.

“All industries are going down, but why aren’t the official statistics going down?” asked Bob Wang, the sales manager of Kralle Tools, a manufacturer in Wenzhou, an eastern city, that makes circular saw blades for lumber mills.

He said he believed that government officials had been underestimating the extent of China’s slowdown to avoid losing face.

So… expect the news out of China to get worse and worse once the election is over. How would the world react to news that the “miracle” which supposedly pulled the globe out of recession is in fact collapsing?

Not well.

Europe and China combined account for 34% of the world’s GDP. Throw in the US which has re-entered a recession and 55% of the globe’s GDP is in contraction.

And everyone is waiting on November 6 to see how this will pan out.

Do you have any facts about applications being denied at an increasing rate? Or the number of applications made in the first place by year?

its NIT just being turned down

ITS THREATS that have PEEPS not bothering to apply

From transcript of last night’s debate:

ROMNEY: Well, let’s look at the president’s policies, all right, as opposed to the rhetoric, because we’ve had four years of policies being played out. And the president’s right in terms of the additional oil production, but none of it came on federal land. As a matter of fact, oil production is down 14 percent this year on federal land, and gas production was down 9 percent. Why? Because the president cut in half the number of licenses and permits for drilling on federal lands, and in federal waters.

So where’d the increase come from? Well a lot of it came from the Bakken Range in North Dakota. What was his participation there? The administration brought a criminal action against the people drilling up there for oil, this massive new resource we have. And what was the cost? 20 or 25 birds were killed and brought out a migratory bird act to go after them on a criminal basis.

Forbes’ Christopher Helman wrote a good account of what occurred earlier this year:

Last summer the U.S. Department of Justice, acting on allegations made by agents of the U.S Fish & Wildlife Service, brought criminal indictments against three oil companies operating in the Bakken shale oil field of North Dakota. Brigham Oil & Gas, Newfield Production, and Continental Resources were charged with violating the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. Brigham was charged with unlawfully killing two mallards, Newfield with killing two mallards, one northern pintail and one red-necked duck. Continental was charged with killing one bird called a say’s phoebe. All of the birds, according to the Wildlife Service investigation, fell victim to the oil companies’ “reserve pits” – basically big holes dug into the ground to collect wastewater and mud from drilling operations. Birds can get into these ponds when they’re not properly netted, get covered in oily muck, and die.

Is having birds die in your reserve pits a criminal act? The government seems to think so. Or maybe the DOJ was just looking for reasons to hassle oil companies working to develop the biggest oil field in the nation. That was sure the way it seemed to Harold Hamm, the billionaire founder of Continental Resources, the biggest player in the Bakken. In a statement Tuesday, Hamm said, “Continental Resources has been operating in North Dakota for more than a quarter of a century. We are good stewards of the land and make it a priority to follow all existing laws and regulations. This has been a costly and time-consuming case that has inhibited our ability to increase our nation’s energy independence, strengthen our economy and create jobs.”

On Tuesday, Judge Daniel Hovland of the U.S. District Court in North Dakota sided with Hamm and the other oil companies, granting their motion to dismiss the charges.

So yes, amid an oil boom in North Dakota that was creating many jobs in a recession, the federal government decided to swoop in (sorry) and file a lawsuit over a few birds dying.

Welfare now costs $1,030,000,000,000...

NO SURPRISE: Jobless claims rise 46,000...

Under Obama, for every $7 brought in by gov't, $11 spent...

WELFARE SOARS 32% IN 4 YEARS ............

The number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits leapt to the highest level in four months in the latest week, erasing the large drop reported last week and then some.

Last week, California reported a large drop in applications, pushing down the overall figure to the lowest since February 2008. This week, it reported a significant increase as it processed applications delayed from the previous week.

A department spokesman says the seasonally adjusted numbers "are being distorted ... by an issue of timing."

Romney, by a landslide.
