What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

That's so cool. I wonder how long it took to Lego those together.

Size comparison memes to prove talking points are fun. Because there's always a bigger fish that will trump your point. I'll join in:

It's a big universe.

Antares is the 15th brightest star in the sky. It is more than 1000 light years away.

How many stars are there in the sky?

No one has an exact count. Needless to say the numbers are astonomical.

Estimates are 200 to 400 billion stars (some estimates are higher) in our own Milky Way Galaxy.

http://sci.gallaudet.edu/Science/hst_ngc4414_9925.jpg

A Hubble telescope image of the spiral galaxy NGC 4414. How many stars do you count? A similar galaxy, NGC 300 was recently brought into closer view by Hubble. Amazing resolution!

How many galaxies?

Catalogs of galaxies in the Hubble Deep Field list about 3,000 Galaxies in a small patch of the sky....

http://sci.gallaudet.edu/Science/hst_deep_field.jpg

This is a Hubble Deep survey image of spiral and elliptical galaxies.
About 27,000 views this size are needed to cover the whole sky.

So that's a rough estimate of 3,000 galaxies in one patch times 27,000,000 patches = 81,000,000,000 galaxies out there that we can see with Hubble. (According to the Royal Observatory, that number is too low. They extimate 100 billion, or 100,000,000,000 galaxies.)

Assumming that they are about the same size as our Milky Way (many are much larger actually) ....

81,000,000,000 galaxies times 400,000,000,000 stars per galaxy = 32,400,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars in the universe.

or more than 32 sextillion stars.

Well actually that's not even right. Recent estimates put the number at more than TWICE that.....

70 sextillion stars

70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000

Didn't I say the numbers are astronomical?
Some astronomers suspect the number is infinite.

70,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 stars?

That is 10 times as many stars as there are grains of sand on all the world's beaches and deserts put together.

That's just an estimate of the stars we (Hubble) might be able to see, because their light gets to Earth. How many stars are so far away that their light has not reached Earth yet? NASA alleges there are zillions of uncountable stars.

... so, about how significant do you feel about now!!

We know you don't care, after all you didn't ask the question, did you?

You aren't calling to shrink the military budget or even keep it static because you don't care. I don't care either because I know we can afford it with some minor tax increases and can eliminated with a few more tax increases but you simply pretend it isn't happening. Stop pretending you care.

I'm not the one that spends every waking hour wading through blogs of bullshit and hate, and then re-posting them on here and then running away when the content is dis-proven.

That would be you.

None of the rest of what you said makes any sense, much like everything else that you post on here.

Did you forget to take your meds again?

It's interesting how many liberals dismiss opposing views by referring to the views as "bullshit and hate". "hate" being the operative word.

Liberal logic.

It's interesting how many conservatives read things that are simply partisan hate filled blogs and post them as truths.

Conservative logic.

The fact is you don't know shit Sean, and when you think you do, you can't put it into words anyone can understand.

Okay, let's see you put it into words we can understand....

Give us your perspective on the military budget, in your own words.

Too much? Not enough? Just right?

Let's hear what you have to say.

Fair enough.

What no snarky comeback? You aren't even going to claim that liberals are just as bad because we quote Maddow as often as your quote Brietbart? I mean it's demonstrably false but I don't expect honesty or truth out of you, I expect a fight!

Too much? Not enough? Just right?

Let's hear what you have to say.

While we're at it you should give your perspective on on taxes for the rich.

Too high? Too Low? Just Right? Why?

Medicare and Social Security.

Too high? Too low? Just right? Why?

Cus here's what I see with you Vette. You're big on insults but low on information and low on suggestions as to what you think might work better than we've got or why you think our current system is ideal.

I don't presume to know. That's what we spend millions educating our generals and admirals to understand and tell us. You don't have a fucking clue either and neither does SeanR. I do know this, the defense of the nation is the first constitutional responsibility of Congress, not Obama care. It's a matter of priorities.

You should have an opinion.

I have a clue. It's too fucking much. There is absolutely no justification for our defense budget or frankly our Medicare/Medicaid budget.

You can never spend too much on defense. You can however waste money fixing pig snout people.

Do you have a copy of the defense budget? Have you analyzed it? How the fuck do you know? Obama has already made draconian cuts prior to the sequestration. But you know better, right? Based on what?

You don't need a copy of the defense budget to know that when you're paying more than the next five guys combined that you're paying too much. That's just common fucking sense. You do have some of that right?

Of course I know better than Obama. The man's a clown, where the fuck have you been? Seriously you just have to look around and it's obvious we are paying way too fucking much on the military, too much on socialized health care (without getting it) and probably too much on social security though that's less clear.

The next five guys aren't the United States, do not have our interests, strategic realities, or territorial requirements. That is the most specious argument the left makes, comparing us to the rest of the world as if it has even a tiny bit of relevance.

We're talking about the defense budget not Obama care, SS, or medicare. The subject is defense.

Of course they similar interests and frankly the only argument you're making here is that we need to annex a few countries because we aren't independent. But of course it has relevance.

No we're talking all of those things because you're argument is that we spend more money that we bring in. There are three main areas we spend money. If we are going to get the deficit and thus the debt under control there are only a few things we can do.

  1. Cut military spending.
  2. Cut Social Security spending
  3. Cut Medicare/Medicaid spending
  4. Raise Taxes.

That's it. You can eliminate welfare all together and even if your prediection turns out to be right and that if you stop paying people to be lazy bastards they'll stop being lazy bastards and your comment at the top of this page is incorrect and they won't be paid crap wages that can't sustain themselves your still not really saving any money. And reality suggests you'll see a rise in crime and need more prisons and guards but I'm willing to visit Vetteland where everybody steps up when they are forced.

Why don't you just admit you don't care about the deficit?

Why don't you just admit you don't know what you're talking about? You have no business commenting on a problem when you don't know what the problem really is. You want to relive the kinds of scenarios that led to Pearl Harbor. Vote for Obama and it will happen.

Another patented pant-load from one of our resident Henny-Penny's.

Our Defense budget is astronomical and out of control. anyone who says otherwise (or refuses to comment on it as you are) is just fooling themselves, completely uninformed, or just full of shit. Pick your category.

this implies you're not fooling yourself, are completely informed, and aren't full of shit.

therefore, you can tell us all exactly what the defense budget *ought* to be. yes?

No, it implies that I know that the defense budget is astronomical and out of control and seriously in need of review. Not that I know which programs are in need of a scalpel.

Reading comprehension for the win.
