The Last Thing You Thought...

Why does it take me so long to cool down after being outside, even with the AC blasting?

Well, I like to meet new people, and try to be friendly around her. I'm a bit distracted with three chat partners and some very good pain meds right now, and probably won't be coherent too much longer. ;)

Eek, well I hope the pain wears off soon and is replaced with distracting smirks and smiles Miss.

But with purple eyes like that, we must converse at some point

I do, too, but... I can live without a fried chicken sandwich.

Ah, I don't really care. They are known to be a Christian organization, and it is no secret how Christian's feel about same sex relationships, so it's really no surprise to learn that is their position. If anything, I'm a little put off that people think it's somehow wrong to hold an unpopular opinion. We DO have freedom of speech in this country, until the fuckwit in charge takes that one away too.

I'm sure we will. The Lounge is a cozy little place and people get rather friendly here, as I'm sure you've noticed.

I hate politics. I hate what it does to people and to relationships. I hate the people can't be brought together, rather than divided. I hate political commercials. I hate seeing disrespect to our leaders.

I just want it all to go away, so I can be left in peace to live my life.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't be allowed to express those opinions, I'm just saying they shouldn't expect there to be repercussions when they do. Just as they have freedom of expression, so do I.

But, being owned by Christians doesn't mean they have to express those opinions, either. Check out the bottom of a cup from In N Out and you'll find John 3:16 written in there. But, you won't hear them talking about this whole ridiculous "traditional marriage" shit as if that actually means something.

Unless they're advocating going back to arranged marriages and multiple wives, of course.

Politics and religion both. I didn't name names as to who is in charge, because it doesn't matter, and it won't matter. Politics and religion divide people from each other and from God. That is plainly wrong, and the root of pretty much all of humanities problems. If we could only realize that we are not separate, we would treat each other better. What I do to you, I do to me. And Vice Versa. Politics and religion are both devised ways to pit people against each other instead of bringing them together.

But my husband was a soldier. He died believing he was protecting our freedoms, and when I see what the powers that be have done to take those freedoms away, I can't help but think they got him killed for nothing. :(

That's why more people should be Humanists. :)

You are certainly entitled to your opinion, and I guess that's the point I'm trying to make as, oddly enough, their Devil's advocate.

I admit I have not been closely following the story in the news. But my understanding of the big fuss is that they were quoted in an interview on a Baptist blog that they supported traditional marriages. Given the target audience, what do you expect them to say? They were asked for their opinion, and they gave it, as true to their beliefs as it was. I see nothing wrong with that just because it goes against some people's grain.

Do I agree with them, No. But I uphold freedom above all else. You are free to be offended if you want to, but they are free to express their viewpoint, on their cups or on their web blogs.

We certainly agree on that much. I'm not at all saying there should be a law not allowing them to express those views, just as I wouldn't support one for the same sort of statement but about mixed race marriages.

And while it's to be expected given the venue, it's not as if the question was born in a vacuum. They've given millions to organizations that are fighting every day against marriage equality, and it's not the first time their CEO has made statements like this.

Mostly, it's just one of those ways that I see too many people on the wrong side of history, just as so many were during the Civil Rights Era, and they're blissfully unaware of it. Their children will look back at things like this and shake their heads sadly, wondering how views like that could've been held in 2012. We've done the same with race, we've done the same with gender equality, we've done the same with countless other things as the zeitgeist has advanced. I believe it's because people are willing to stand up to statements like his and say that that they disagree that my children, and my grandchildren, whatever their sexual orientation, will live in a better world than I do.

At the end of the day, I just wish everyone would ask one simple question: Will this increase or decrease the overall well being of humanity? If the answer is in the negative, then it's time to re-examine what you're doing.

Ooooh...I knew if I came back I would get zydrate kisses!

I am dying for kisses from someone else too...
