pics in IMs

Can someone please tell me how to go about putting a picture in and IM? It is apparently possible since someone has asked me to send a photo but I'm damned if I can sort out how to go about doing it. Help a girl out?

There is an option on these post for "attachments" What I'm looking for is whether there is something similar in PMs.
I stuck an attachment onto this post just to see what would happen.

Oh, I'm no silly girl to let a little attention go to my head. Actually I'm just OCD enough that if I know a thing CAN be done I'm never really happy until I know HOW.

I've been over there but I haven't seen that particular thread. I'll be sure to look for it. I don't feel like I'm doing too badly--time and tenacity can do wonders I suppose (or do they just call that being a stubborn bitch?)
