I just had an interesting thought. I doubt the Lifestyle is limited to the U.S.
I wonder if it is a bit different in the UK or Canada? A little more or a little less
perhaps. Sometimes I just have these silly random thoughts.:D

I'm sure there are cultural differences, just as there are differences in vocabulary, spelling, and pronunciation. But the essence of BDSM is the relationship between two or more human beings. I don't imagine that varies a huge amount on either side of the Atlantic, with much shared cultural heritage. But things may be different in non-'western' cultures.

Thanks mate. You have a really good point. I wondered if things were a little less restrictive outside of the States?

lifestyle

some states or places in the US have restrictions on what a person can buy for usage. I would imagine the UK or Canada would be less prudish.

You mean dildos?
Yes, some states in the US are still operating in the dark ages. What's even worse than the ban on dildos is the ways in which those same states try to restrict women's sexual and reproductive rights.

Lol

Well there is that. There are certain laws that I just think are stupid. As long as nobody is bieng hurt then whats the fucking problem ya know?

The problem is that they have a different definition of "hurt".

Yeah

I guess that is true. One person's pain is anothers pleasure.

I know in Australia that we have a lot of adult stores, warehouses even and there's no problem with them. We have legal brothels here too.

Not that we don't have illegal prostitution or streetwalkers here as well.

I think a main difference in Australia as far as the lifestyle goes (and I'm not active so it's only a guess) is that our population is much smaller so our scene is also much smaller.

Wow, a ban on dildos?! I feel ignorant now, I truely thought all western countries would be comfortable with vanilla sex toys by now. I feel pretty luckily down here in NZ. It's like what Redkate said about Australia; sex stores abound and prostitution both in brothels and on the street is legal. Also, it looks like a bill will be passed here very soon legalising gay marriage. Makes me love my country just that little bit more :)

There always seems to be a stupid law remaining.
And then there is society.
Germany feels really liberal to me. But try to go out as Master and slave (say... with collar and lash and all the 'right' accessories) in the northern part and in the Bavaria and you'll clearly feel the difference.

Or try to get a parcel from your favorite dildo dealer (with an easily recognizable name pointing to what likely will be inside) from your neighbor who happened to receive it for you. And revel in the funny looks you get.

One of the biggest differences i've seen between the US and the UK is through Amazon - in the UK you can't buy sex toys on the website but in the US you can... odd! In the UK you have to make do with some home-made toys if buying from the site e.g. Rope - then people find it odd when someone writes about tying someone up with it rather than using it as a washing line...

Hmm. Interesting. That does seem odd. Maybe then those who are so inclined will start buying house hold items from the local Tesco and use them for things other than what the label says.

We have a lot of feel good laws in the USA.
Can't buy a dildo in a state but you can order it on line and no one cares.

There are stupied laws everywhere I'm sure.

I think we live in a pretty liberal society.
People just don't want to live next to an adult book store or a strip joint.

Some of my favourite toys are ones i've used for something other than their original purpose!

Thats neat dirtymary. I'm sure it brings you lots of pleasure and thats good.

Its not just about pleasure - there's something very naughty about shopping for something innocent and thinking 'now, how else could I use that...?'. Plus its creative; I hate buying something which the 'market' thinks I want and then it leaving me wanting - I'd rather create a toy myself which fulfils my needs.

The Netherlands is liberal. Here it is legal, as long as it is consensual, and there are even provisions in some places for public BDSM activities though you need to be aware how that works and where, and if you require a permit for particular events. Basically, if you are consenting adults, you are free to restrain and whip to your hearts content. BDSM porn and toys are also readily available and legally sold in shops. LOL, vibrators and dildo's even sit on the shelf beside body lotions in regular drugstores.

hmmm...you must be thinking of a different uk!

I'm in the uk and have bought a good 50% of my sex toys on-line, not tried Amazon specifically and having just checked it out i am rather surprised that they don't seem to sell vibes or dildos, although there are a few 'massager's' listed.

It's not a general issue though, there are plenty of places to openly purchase lots of lovely toys and equipment both on and off line over here.

Buying toys from Amazon was something that was pointed out by my Master - he lives in the US.

Unfortunately toys in the UK seem very expensive, compared to buying in the US. Less toys in the chest i suppose!
