I could not get beyond the bedroom door this morning without hearing of China's first day Olympic haul, 6 total medals with 4 gold. It is all over CCTV, every channel just about. It's going to be a long two weeks...

It would have meant failing the Olympic Drugs Tests and disqualification. The drug rules are now so stringent that it is far too easy to eat the wrong food and fail on drugs.

But some countries/competitors still try to get around the Drugs rules.

Yes. The media centre at the Olympics has commentators from almost every country concentrating on their own country's competitors.

But significant Olympic achievements by any competitor, such as the 'blind' archer, get mentioned among the national interest stories.

Of course Olympic medal count is the best possible indicator of the validity and overall rightness of a political system.

I cannot think of anything more important for a new country deciding between, Despotism, Fascism, Democracy, Republicanism, Socialism, Democratic Socialism or Communism than to look at the medal counts at the last olympic games.
