I wager that most who are pro-choice are against abortions. They just don't want to remove that option of last resort.

So here's a thread. In it nothing about curbing access to abortions, inconveniencing those who seek or provide abortion services, or about de-funding of abortion providers. Or personhood amendments and other flamewar inducing stuffs.

Here be only discussed other things that can bring down abortion rates. Things that we can all agree on. I happen to think there are plenty, when you think one step further and ask 'what makes women choose abortion'? It's an effect of a cause. Or causes. Which are they, can they be changed?

All right, dems de rules.

Or call each other baby killers, Talibans and Nazis. Up to y'all.

Greater access to inexpensive birth control, together with birth control instruction, will dramatically lower the abortion rate, in my opinion.

But that would force a number of people to realize that their children are sexually active.

i know many who condemn terminations, but usually think its ok if the babe is less than perfect. does that make them hypocrits?

Each decision is private and personal and it really isnt for anyone else to judge.

often teens are pressured into a termination and I think this is a huge pity - better access to informantion, advice and viable safe-sex options need to widely and freely available.

we live in a highly sexed commercial enviroment where the pressure to be desirable is greater than the peer pressure to toke on a spliff or have some beer is. Sex is part and parcel of growing up these days and the pro-lifers are usually the ones who advocate abstinance - which is possibly a bit idealistic (and perhaps short-sighted) (imo)

i wish pro-lifers would head the cause for free contraception for both boys and girls cos you can catch VD as easily as u can 'catch' a baby.

Things that would provide viable options for eleective abortion for poor women. Things like paid maternity leave, re-employment security afterwards, cheap daycare for working parents. Maybe affordable pre-natal care. SCHIP is health coverag. for poor kids, right? Could it (or does it?) apply to poor unborn kids?

Or summed up: soshulizm. ;)

Well in the US, more then 50% of women who have abortions are under 25, already have at least 1 child, and fall below the poverty line.

So anything that can help those women obtain easier or free birth control or make them feel able to handle another mouth to feed, can help.

Why does the birth control always fall to the woman?

Men are pigs and only care about themselves.

Young women/girls need to learn to say no, not without a condom. If the guy refuses and forces her...then the results...well it's her body he violated...so it's her say in what happens.

It's her choice, but it's not an easy one to make. She will need the support of her friends and family, those she should be able to depend on to help, not judge.

Fuck them all. Pro-choicers are pro-deathers, if we built artificial wombs for all the unwanted fetuses they'd STILL want to kill them for experiments or stem cell transplants.

If fetuses could fight back, this would be a completely different issue. This is all about picking on someone who can't fight back, and making them pay for all your problems. All based on the gobstoppingly stupid and militantly ignorant argument that a fetus is a cancer cell is a sperm cell.

Pro-lifers are mostly a bunch of flaming hypocrites. You've got the fringe zone clinic bombers and nutjobs who go kill abortion doctors. How is that pro-life?

Then there's the vast majority of them, the pro-death-after-birth hypocrites that George Carlin so aptly described. They'll tell a pregnant woman to have her baby even if everyone knows it's doomed to die an hour afterwards. And if the kid is born into poverty or falls into poverty later, tough luck to you kid. You got pro-life Pastor Hagee out there screaming "STARVE!! STARVE!! STARVE!!" to the poor. Logically these guys should be ROOTING for abortion just to cut down on the number of poor people.

The leftist pro-lifers, the ones that oppose wars (especially shit like the "war on terror"), fight against poverty and try to leave the world a better place for the 99%, where are they nowadays? Oh yeah they merged over into the pro-abortion leftist groups or got indoctrinated by the pro-death capitalist GOPers who pander to pro-life voters. I knew their world got Death Star'd the day Sarah Palin called herself a member of the Feminists for Life and the FFL didn't put on Godzilla's Doc Martens and publicly give her the boot.

Show me a leftist pro-lifer and I'll show you someone with their head truly screwed on. The rest are full of shit.

I wouldn't show you a leftist pro-lifer if I found one. I'd put in a museum right next Rightie Pro-Taxer I captured a few weeks ago.

I'm pro-choice and do not apologize for it.

I'm pro-choice. I support the right of any female that wants to terminate a pregnancy for any reason. It's her choice and no one elses business. I support federal funding for abortions and birth control. I vote PRO-CHOICE.

I also support medially assisted sucide.

This earth is grossly overpopulated. If there was another animal on this earth that was as destructive as man we would do everything within our powers to destroy that critter. We destroy our water, air and soil. We have poisoned our food supply. We have ruined the climate.

I do not celebrate a pregnancy or the birth of a child. I mourn the lost of habitat, I mourn the carbon footprint that child will leave, I mourn the destruction of resources that will be used to raise that child.

Thanks.

I don't believe in abortion, BUT I am a BIG supporter of birth control!!

People need to stop blaming the doctors, nurses, and care facilities providing abortion services and START working in the education of people about BETTER birth control options.

I frankly don't care if it's against a religion or two if it keeps children from dying and women from having to make that choice.

education won't be enough. we are too self centered and foolishly proud for education to solve the problem.

True.

It helps TREMENDOUSLY if the person being taught can actually LEARN.

I fucking WEEP for the future, I truly do.

Don't. The kids today have forgotten more shit than any of us ever knew.

When you're right, you're right, I suppose.

I'm still afraid of what we are becoming...and by "we" I mean "them"....ugh.
I'm not even making my own point.

Condoms and BC pills cost less than smoking or a few drinks or even a meal at a restaraunt once a month. Cost has nothing to do with it. People need to learn to use them is all!

DING DING DING!!!

When was the last time you bought a pack of condoms? Because unless your only having sex once a blue moon, they are expensive.

Neither birth control or condoms are going to bankrupt your average American, but since the majority of women seeking abortions are young mothers living below the poverty line, that's something of a diffrent story.
