Great song by the Beatles

No one who says this ever goes into their reasons for saying it.

I suspect it's because they know they'll sound foolish.

I think that's part of the reason why rock music has been so stagnant recently: this dogmatic way of thinking with rock music. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones HAVE to be the greatest rock bands of all time! Jimi Hendrix HAS to be the greatest guitarist of all time! Honestly, rock music is my favorite genre, but I've never cared for any of those people. Well, kind of Hendrix and The Rolling Stones. I don't find ANY appeal in The Beatles at all though.

So, you don't like them because other people do. Okay.

Millions love the Beatles, but thats cool that you're not one of them. We'll let you slide because you have a killer rack.

That's not what I said at all.

There's nothing wrong with not liking them, of course. I was just seeing what your reason was. Going against dogmatic thinking isn't really a reason - I was looking for something along the lines of the music....

I don't like their vocals, especially the harmonies. Instrumentally I think plenty of bands surpass them.

Neither of those really have anything to do with why the Beatles are considered to be great.

It's like saying Dylan isn't great because his voice is no good.

"Einstein was a great thinker."

"`Einstein' and `great' don't mix."

"Why?"

"I didn't like his hair."

"That's not what people care about when it comes to Einstein."

"That's what I care about. I don't care why other people consider him to be great."

Einstein's hair has nothing to do with his scientific knowledge. The Beatles' vocal skills and instrumentation have a ton to do with their music.

Beatles fans sure are defensive...

The Beatles' vocal skills and instrumentation have a ton to do with their music.

Wrong. And this, coming from someone who says that rock music is her favorite genre.

Are you really going to argue that "vocal skills" and "instrumentation" have a ton to do with rock? I can hear Lester Bangs laughing from his grave...

Yes, instrumentation and vocal talent are both very important in rock.

Do you think every rock musician says "I'm going to put very poor guitar work into my music!"?

Rock has it's roots in three guitar chords, a busted amp, and people who couldn't keep a tune.

Wild Thing, Louie Louie, Satisfaction - where are the vocals and focus on instrumentation, exactly?

Do you think every rock musician says "I'm going to put very poor guitar work into my music!"?

No, but some actually do. That's a clue re: the genre.

Sex Pistols.

Bingo. And dozens of others...

Yet Jimi Hendrix is a rock guitarist and doesn't do that.

I don't think they said "I'm going to suck on this album!" - Instead the substituted technical playing for emotion.

They were certainly never meant to be good. They couldn't even play their instruments.
