Suppose you and I go back in time to, say, 1970. We had a lot of manufacturing jobs then, and union jobs. If I were to then snap my fingers and caused all Unions jobs to instantly become non-Union, then what would the middle class have looked like in 1988?

My conservative friend, if you think liberal ideas are wacky, then I suggest you do some research. The nicest places to live in this world outside America are the countries you would call liberal. They are usually Protestant, have low birthrates because they're not living in the dark ages with their religion. In fact they tend to be the least religious countries. Places like Northern and Western Europe, Canada, and Australia. Countries with backward religious views hold their people back. Seriously would you rather live in a fundamentalist country like Saudi Arabia or even India, or would you rather live in Denmark or Sweden? All stats show these kinds of countriest are the happiest. They also have good economies, more social welfare, and higher taxes. They have rules in place making it hard for industries to abandon them, they offer free college education and healthcare. Quite simply, they're doing it right.

Not really. Since Ann is both co-owner of the horse and the training/boarding facility (which offers a multitude of training and equestrian services) where the horse is housed, many of those things can and are legal business expenses.

Rafalca is not an expensive pet. Nor are any of the other resident schooling horses housed at that facility. These are working animals who are highly trained to do a specific job. They are stock in trade to the operation of that facility. Without them (the schooling horses) a significant amount of revenue would be lost to that facility. Boarding other peoples horses is only a part of running a stable. Rider/horse training is the other. It is a business, just like any other business and this is how these riders, trainers and stable owners make thier living.
