Make sure you place the ball on a flat surface, or on top of an incline. On a flat surface, depending on the mass of the ball, a nudge with a few newtons of force should get the ball rolling. On an incline, simply releasing the ball, will allow gravitational force to act on the mass of the ball, causing it to roll.
