And, for what it's worth, that was vocative. It's when you're speaking to someone directly. It only happens in the second declension, mostly masculine nouns. It's why Caesar is reputed to have said "Et tu, Brute" instead of "Et tu, Brutus."

I am certain that in the eight years of Philosophy courses I labored through that your statement has a formal notation, but IO forget.
