Reaction to nipple shields?

My wife decided to go braless to a couple of functions this weekend because she liked the way her new dresses looked without a bra. She wore adhesive fabric ("daisy") nipple shields to keep her nipples from popping out. It's refrigerated air conditioning season here and my wife's nipples sometimes have the reaction that you might expect coming inside from the hot outdoors. She usually wears a bra so it's not really an issue.

Last night she showed me a small blister that had formed at the edge of one shield. Her areola are farily large, so the edge of the shield is more or less the edge of her areola. She thinks the blister might be from the dress fabric rubbing at the edge of the shield. I am wondering if it's perhaps an allergic reaction to the shield adhesive, although the rest of the nipple doesn't seem to be affected.

Has anyone else experienced this? This would be a non-issue except that she'd like to go braless more often. She doesn't like "Band Aids" because they're obvious and prefers something with a smoother look. Are some manufacturers better than others?

Thanks in advance

You need to do a skin test with the pasties so that you can see if you'll rule out an allergic reaction to the adhesive.

Skin tests are easy, you just need some patience.

Have her wash and dry her inner arm. Either one works fine. Place one of the pasties on her inner arm and leave it for 24 hours. Remove it at the appropriate time and watch the place where the pasty had been previously for the next 6 hours. If she shows any kind of irritation, hives, blistering, raw or painful skin, then she is indeed allergic to the adhesive.

If she is allergic to the adhesive, have her switch to another brand/kind of pasty. Here is a link I found for you. I hope this is helpful.

Thanks. That didn't occur to us. I'll let her know and we'll see if she shows any signs of being allergic!

No problem. A lot of people don't think about stuff like this. The only reason I do is that I have a sensitive/redheaded/prone to hives skin, so I have to be careful what I put on it. I had the most horrible reaction to the adhesive on the Birth Control Patch once, my skin reacted to badly I had bloody patches where my skin looked like it had been eaten away by acid when I took it off. No me gusta.

I always like to make sure I can prevent that kind of pain from happening to other folks. :)
