The interesting thing is that 20 of the exact same letter-to-the-editor bemoaning this purported 83% number appeared in various small market newspapers in the past week.

Their survey method was completely invalid. They send surveys to random (?) doctors' fax machines and got a 4% response rate. Therefore they aren't studying what doctors actually think, just what a subgroup thinks. People with a chip on their shoulders are most likely to respond to this kind of thing.

And by the way you disingenuous lying fuck, you fucking changed the question. The actual question is: "How do current changes in the medical system affect your desire to practice medicine". The question has nothing to do with Obamacare. In fact, none of the questions do.

I've actually asked ...let's see....5 doctors, 4 nurses and 2 PAs about it. None of them was even considering quitting and none of them was even sure about the positive/negative consequences yet. All of them confirmed to me the need for healthcare reform of some sort though and applauded the president for working on it. Just saying. I realize this isn't a scientific survey but...it was 11 people I knew or was in contact with and of those it was 100% not quitting.

Very good question. It's not going to affect their income, is it? It might affect the bottom lines of the health-insurers and their stockholders, but not the doctors'. And nobody who spends eight years in school preparing for a profession is going to walk away from it just to avoid a little extra paperwork that somebody else in their office is going to be handling anyway. All doctors really want is the chance to (1) treat patients and (2) get paid for it.

As a matter of fact, Congress votes to cut doctor compensation for Medicare quite often, then backs down when doctors say they won't take any more.

I suppose when youre dealing with clients who can afford it, it could make sense. I like the idea of eliminating the need for insurance companies, however I dont think thats a viable option for 95% of Americans.
