"If anyone was in doubt, we in Texas have no intention to implement so-called state exchanges or to expand Medicaid under Obamacare. I will not be party to socializing health care and bankrupting my state in direct contradiction to our Constitution and our founding principles of limited government,"

Hmmm, I should have seen this coming, but it did not occur to me that states would refuse to comply with the ACA.

As part of the SCOTUS decision, it was very, very clearly spelled out that states could not be compelled to establish state exchanges by the Federal government, nor could the Federal government withold Medicare funding, as they had threatened to do as punishment for 'non-compliance'.

Not only are states not obligated to implement the Obamacare health care exchanges, but by opting out of implementing them the states can throw a monkey wrench in the overall implementation of the law. Since the majority of states were in the ACA lawsuit before the Supreme Court (26 states sued the Federal government), I'd expect those exhanges to be a bit empty.

"Texas ranks worst in the nation in health care services and delivery, according to an annual scorecard issued by the federal Agency for Health Care Research and Quality.

In nine out of 12 categories, Texas rated weak or very weak. The only area where Texas earned the above average ranking of "strong" was in maternal and child health care measures. Out of a possible 100 points, Texas earned 31.61, while Minnesota, the highest ranking state, scored 67.31."

It will be interesting to see how/if the federal government will force them to comply, or if they will be forced to comply by pressure from their constitutes.

The Supreme Court has already ruled they cannot be forced to comply, that portion of the law was ruled unconstitutional

They don't care about their poor constituents. They DO care about doctors and hospitals, however, and those folks are going to be wondering why the hell their governors are turning down free money. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face-- make that cutting off your nose and condemning untold numbers of people in your state to an early death in the process.

please explain what free $ they are turning down?

The government has set up a fund to help states who may struggle to implement the knew laws. However states have to apply for this grant. I believe 30 some odd states have already applied and the deadline is mid November.

Its not FREE money. Medicaid in Florida absorbs 20 billions of the state budget.

Medicaid is like going Dutch Treat on a date.

Doctors are hugely against this travesty, with the expectation many many doctors will and are leaving the profession in frustration, adding to the government induced mayhem.

I havent been able to find a reliable poll about doctors but...

"(Doctors polled)Forty-four percent believe that the Act is “a good start.” Forty-four percent believe that “it is a step in the wrong direction......the American Medical Association, the American College of Physicians, the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Surgeons, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Osteopathic Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American College of Cardiology all endorsed last year’s health reform. These groups represent hundreds of thousands of physicians across a wide range of medical sub-specialties.

The Mediciaid expansion is fully funded by the federal government to begin with, and it still covers 90 percent of the expansion by 2020. This is an especially good deal for states that provide little or no Medicaid benefits right now, such as--hey, there we are again!--Texas.

You can oppose all this if you want, but it's at least an attempt to do something about the problem of the uninsured and the huge expense of treating them currently incurred by hospitals. Any alternative solutions would be greatly appreciated, so long as you realize that any solution other than "let 'em die" is going to cost money at some point in the process.

you left out one important part of your 'survey'...

'...of the 16,537 physicians the firm contacted, 501 completed the survey. That’s a response rate of barely 3 percent. It’s not clear whom this tiny sample really represents. '

Nice poll!
