Many current cultural trends have scarcely changed since the mid-1990s. Tattoos, shaved heads on men, shaved pussies on women, hip hop most popular music, obnoxious headgear (backwards caps, ski caps in July, hoodies, etc), and many other cultural trends and attitudes that began in the 90s have only become more common rather then changing or reversing as would be common in past eras.

In decades gone by, many cultural trends would change about every 10 years. Little seems to change anymore. Currently, we are quickly approaching 20 years of little major cultural change.

just think about how many tattooed, pierced and fake boobed old people there are going to be in the nursing homes in 50 years.

Heh - I figure by the time I get to that age, I won't give a damn about my tatts.
Mind you, I also plan to take up drugs at around 85 :D

So, when do nice clothes come back into fashion? WalMart chic has gotten old.

The one I hate the most is people using the word "then" instead of "than".

Personally, I'm waiting to see the day when jeans are worn around the knees.
Oh wait....

Dickless is sorta right. Not about cultural trends since what he's talking about is fashion whereas cultural trends are more broad but nonetheless he has a sort-of point. Maybe a half-point. Yeah, I'll give him credit for half.
Certain trends have stuck around longer than usual. The hip hop comment is dumb because it's music. Rock and roll was said to be a short term trend in the 50's. It wasn't. Some are, some aren't. If they stick around they aren't trends anymore. Since rap/hip hop has been around for a few decades then I think it's safe to say it's not a trend.
Anywho...the thing about backwards hats, wearing pants low, shaved heads, tattoos, piercings, etc. Still strong after quite some time. Could mean they are here to stay, could mean they're just lasting longer than normal.
Of course just because a few things stick around longer than average doesn't mean all things are. It's a stupid premise really but it's from Dickless so that's to be expected.

Let's hope that one stays.

My nearly-16 year old saw a pic the other day of a woman with pubic hair.
He was absolutely shocked!
(This pic was in a biology book, so don't freak out, ok?!)
Anyway, it occurred to me that an entire generation of men are growing up not knowing that the natural state is to have hair, and that bare is a manipulation.
Sad, really.

Only stupid men will think that.

Although I do think there is a generation of men who will be reluctant to accept less then totally shaved.

I was with a woman the other night that was not shaved. She is 40-something and recently divorced. It was not even really trimmed up at all. I was more than a little surprised but then again she has been out of the game for a long stretch.

So I guess I am of that generation because I'm thinking about bringing a razor to the next encounter and shaving her - or at least trimming it up.

Georg Friedrich Wilhelm Hegel was famous for asserting in his critique of esthetics that "art," by which he meant all manner of self-expression, was at an end. Not that everything has already been done, but that all means of expression have been discovered. He wasn't privy to moving pictures or recorded effects, but still his ideas were not too ridiculous 200 years ago. Lady Gaga channels Madonna, Oasis channels the Beatles, sideburns turn a guy into a poet.

But now we are all seeking to express ourselves. A shaved head turns a bald guy into a tough guy, a hairy crotch turns an office assistant into a woman of the earth, and a tatoo makes you wonderfully unique.

As Gertrude Stein said, "Of course you're wonderfully unique dear! Everyone is wonderfully unique!"

Our schools have been reconstructed to stifle individualism.
Arts and after school programs have gone the way of budget cuts.
Individual rights are becoming extinct.

The next cultural changes are going to be doozies.
