As an Atheist, I'm not sure exactly how I feel about this...

Eureka! Physicists celebrate evidence of particle
By JOHN HEILPRIN
Jul 4, 6:01 AM (ET)

GENEVA (AP) - To cheers and standing ovations from scientists, the world's biggest atom smasher claimed the discovery of a new subatomic particle Wednesday, calling it "consistent" with the long-sought Higgs boson - popularly known as the "God particle" - that helps explain what gives all matter in the universe size and shape.

"We have now found the missing cornerstone of particle physics," Rolf Heuer, director of the European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), told scientists.

He said the newly discovered subatomic particle is a boson, but he stopped just shy of claiming outright that it is the Higgs boson itself - an extremely fine distinction.
"As a layman, I think we did it," he told the elated crowd. "We have a discovery. We have observed a new particle that is consistent with a Higgs boson."

Fuck you FAGFENDY, put me on IGGY and leave me there

Whe I get juice back and not in my car and phone

Im gonna stalk and bash you

FUCKOFF,FENDY

Are you kidding?

I want to be teleported!

:)

We discover stuff and then we learn how to use it. Humans are very good at this.

There will be ramifications of this discovery in the future. Nobody knows how far forward this will push us.

Science good!
Education good!

Not when it's funded and directed by the government...

Where did the CERN money come from? Did Mitt Romney donate to the cause?

No, Pete. Mitt gave nothing. He is a dung beetle. Small people like you and I paid our taxes and our taxes were pooled and built a huge complex to do research on a level we had never seen before.

Just like the Hubble telescope.

Just like...

Of course, CERN does not always produce the results government expects as it did when it found that Man and CO2 were not the sources of glowball warning...

BAD SCIENCE!!!

... and we wonder why the middle-class is disappearing...

When it runs up against health care, Science may begin asking the same questions about its disappearing funding...

Give it time.

You watched as NASA went from ground-breaking to broke under Government management.

Have you seen the price of GM stock lately?

I watched NASA go to the moon with the support of our nation. A few times.

Were the rich people of the day putting their cash in to make that happen? Were the big corporations donating to make it happen?

Fuck no. Little people. You and I. We paid taxes and shit happened.

Your opinion maybe, not mine.

Science is not absolute. Sometimes we go down the wrong path and have to regroup. Sometimes data is misread or interpreted the wrong way. The ability to correct and move forward are built in.

Don't blame science.

Yes, we paid for it.

You're right Petey, Gawd love ya...

However, the thriving has run out due to the mounting pile that us "little" people are paying for...

Good morning, Gump and Pete. Gump, chill, your atheism is safe:

The Nobel Laureate Leon Lederman coined the phrase "The God Particle" as the title of his otherwise excellent book as a way of underscoring how essential the Higgs is in our Standard Model of Physics. You can get away with that sort of hype when you're a Nobel prize winner. It also sold roughly 10 gajillion copies. He also got cutesy afterwards, and used to semi-seriously defend the name by saying that the publisher wouldn't let him call it the goddamn particle.

Did I?

Did I once blame Science for anything?

Or, perhaps, I blamed the government that bleeds us dry...
