A flat stomach, at least for most adult men, comes down to mostly diet. I, only recently, cut my abdominal muscles in to the point where I have the "V" and six pack. Someone, here, has seen a picture. That said, my total core strength is similar to where it was a couple months ago. The only real difference has been my nutrition is now balanced to optimal levels and my body has shed the last few percentage points of body fat that I needed to shed.

A few males might get away and store body fat in other places, like a woman does, but the stomach is typically where a man's body fat lingers even as they get into very good shape. The last push for abs is mostly diet based.

So, for women out there, it's pretty damned possible your guy is in really good shape even if he doesn't have that perfect stomach.
