Let's Talk About The "Do Nothing Congress"

February 2010 news is sooooooo relevant in June...almost July...2012.

The senate was supposed to model the house of lords...being the grownups and all. Can't have common folk making the decisions.

We have not had a budget process since 2009. Since that is pretty much the principal job of Congress, I'd call that "do nothing".

Senators were Constituted to be representative of their respective States in the business of federal government...

...Congressmen of the House represent the People in the federal government's business.

The 17th Amendment compromised representation by the States...

...so naturally the government has now long been national instead of federal, and completely contrary to the framers' specific intent.

That was the idea. Niether is all that indicative of reality.

Plus....I'm a BIG fan of gridlock.

As things stand now, it's probably the best thing we can hope for, exactly as the Founders wanted if and when it came to this point. They wrote a great deal that it would... 'you have a Republic, if you can keep it!'

I have to agree. Creating a budget is one of the major jobs of the Congress and Senate. If I refuse to create a budget for my household there will be hell to pay from my creditors and my ability to get loans. I cannot print money and just say "nevermind". I do in general feel if Congress can't pass new laws it's a good thing.

We haven't heard anything for a while about the 'Balanced Budget Amendment', but it may be in the process of resurrection. In addition to a requirement to have a budget, and that it be balanced, we may need to itemize the categories for which a budget can, and cannot be levied, specifically limiting the ability of the congress to tax according to its enumerated powers. But as you say, if Congress can't pass new laws, that's a good thing. Perhaps in addition to all the other additions, it may not be a bad idea to require all laws come with an expiration date, upon which time they either pass into darkness, or must be reauthorized by another vote to sustain them, again for a limited permissible time period.

Senate sitting on 290 bills already passed by House; tension mounts
By J. Taylor Rushing

Exasperated House Democratic leaders have compiled a list showing that they have passed 290 bills that have stalled in the Senate.

The list is the latest sign that Democrats in the lower chamber are frustrated with their Senate counterparts.

What did you do, go looking for anything negative you could find and forgot to actually read your own article? Stupid even for you.

I'm curious to his keyword search on something like that. Like I said on the twatter, watching this asshole meltdown has been fun to watch.

He was spammin' another thread with derpy Hill website articles earlier. I think this popped up on the little "You may also like..." box at the bottom of the page and when he saw the title he got a chubby.

Bottom line, bullshit aside, there are 290 house bills awaiting action by Reid, and nothing is happening. So the "do nothing" is in the Senate which is controlled by Reid.

PS: Note to KR, fuck off again.

This administration isn't hung up on obeying laws.

Vetteman,

You need to get laid.

You've wandered into Alice in Wonderland territory.

Rediscover your wife.

And your life too.

No more cans of corn.

No more bragging about laying pipe for the myriads other than your wife.

Lay her.

And then come back and share with us how the Chief Justice is too dumb to be chief and about 290 bills are meandering.

Excuse me, but you are 100% wrong. AGAIN.

Your article is from February 2010.
There was a Congressional election in November 2010.
A new Congress was seated in January 2011.
Any of those leftover 290 bills awaiting action disappeared with the "old" Congress' expiration.

This is American Government 101.

Usual help needed here. Somebody quote me please.
