London Rippers, offensive baseball team name?

you really dont think " London" and " Ripper" are not going to be equated with Jack the Ripper

even their logo has a stereotype of a Victorina man thusly reinforcing their links to Jack the Ripper

linking a baseball team to one of history's most notorious killers and mutilator of women should be a bad idea to even the most stupid of people

I can see objecting to it if you are sensitive about serial killers or promoting violent crime in general, but to be "outraged" just because of the sex of the killer's victims is wrong. Plenty of serial killers kill men, others kill both sexes. The London Ripper happened to kill female hookers. Dahmer and Gacy killed dudes. These feminists wouldn't care if they were the London Clown Killers in honor of Gacy. Why does anyone even listen to "feminists" anymore? They are just stupid hypocrites with an outdated and unnecessary ideology they can't let go of.

I hate women, mostly because they won't sleep with me. Strippers also show no regard for my feelings.

I made this thread because I wanted another excuse to complain about them.

Also, all women are "feminists".

Got it.

so you'd be okay if there was a team called the Gary Indianna Gacy's?

ii'm not outraged becuase the victims are women... but because they want to associate themselves delibetately with someone that mutilated and killed people

feminists are upset because the victims were women and were killed grotesquely

would you encourage a team that based it's name off of Karla Homolka or Clifford Olson?

the only one being stupid in this is people like you that think torture and murder are acceptable forms of entertainment

Why does the sex of the victims matter? Would these "feminists" say a word if the team name invoked something having to do with Jeffrey Dahmer?

so you'd be okay if a local team based it's name after a child molestor... i mean, it's only a name, right?

I don't hear anti-crime groups leading the criticism. These "feminists" only care about their own wierd 1972-esque ideology.

becase no crime is being commited dumbass

so what you're saying is you are in support of soccer teams named after child molestors

just a name after all

Actually, the Gary Gacys is pretty cleaver.

1. Figures you'd like a team name paying homage to someone who victimized children. Right up your alley.

2. Anyone who spells "clever" cleaver probably thinks a 2x4 is clever.

but you would still be happy to hear about a child molestor based team though

No, that is socially unacceptable in today's society. Serial killers are a lot more mainstream, like it or not. People find serial killers of adults fascinating in a macabre way. Its like Halloween, people like to be scared or focus on the macabre. Its been that way since Jack the Ripper's time, he fascinated and horrified Victorian society at the same time.

I don't care one way or the other about the name, myself. Let the people decide if they want to patronize the team or not.

Someone who supports third trimester abortion on demand shouldn't be throwing stones about victimized children.

bullshit...ask one person if they think Karla Homolka is mainstream and acceptable

okay better yet... compile a list of sports teams named after serial killers and get back to me

maybe then you'll figure out why people think its offensive

Okay....I can see why women would be VERY upset about this...BUT...

Because I have a sick sense of humour, I laughed my ass off when I first let it sink in.
But, yeah, probably in poor taste, yes.

So what is your suggestion when little Johnny or Billy or Amanda asks their parents why the local Frontier League team is called the Rippers?

The ambivilence is almost as disgraceful as the idiocy of naming a team after an obvious reference to serial killing....
