Anyone read this?

I am into the second book now.

Not a bad story I suppose, but I have seen sooo much more here on the story side.

I don't understand how something like this gets all kinds of attention, while there are many, many incredibly talented people here I've never heard of.

I know BDSM isn't exactly mainstream, but I picked up the book in a grocery store.

Anyone have comments?

Oh, BTW - Pika_Reet - longtime reader, board newbie. I hope to write a little myself, soon.

I'm guesssing yes, Great White North. I'm guessing Pika is a fellow canuck. :D

in addition to the one Pilot posted there is another thread in the BDSM forum as well.

Little bit of a different take on it there as 50 shades is grrrrrrr supposed to be bdsm.

Don't mind me, my bitterness over this rag knows no bounds.

Welcome to the AH!!

Thank you again!

I'm glad to know it's not just my ego talking. I thought it was crap, myself. The FPP doesn't help either.

I read through all three. the fanfic origins are definatley there. It's fairly well written, for fanfic, but if you realize that, the origins are clear. It's definatly turn-off-your brain fluff though. :)

I guess, I'm one of those people the brain never stops. Ever.

I'll give you an example. Jaws is one of my favorite movies. I can probably quote 2/3rds of it.

That part at the end where Quint blows the motor of his boat? I've een the movie a 100 times and still look at whoever I'm with and say "Now why the fuck did he do that? All he had to do was etc....."

Never read it. My wife got it on kindle and only got about 5 chapter in. My sister didn't get that far. I won't even spit on it out of GP's.

But whether its good or not as a book its a hell of a marketing scheme.

Was very tame and truthfully, for me, it just doesn't go anywhere. Weak plot, way to much vanilla sex and I hate the way they make Gray seem like his desires are his flaws. I have read much better erotica lit on this site.

It isn't even well-written for fanfic. But-- it's well written for Twilight fanfic. :)

(yes, I have a copy. I read the first chapter, skimmed the rest)

I think I quoted Bernard Shaw before (maybe a lot of times before), and I haven't read even one shade of gray, much less 50, but here goes: "No novel is too bad not to be worth publishing, provided it is a novel and not an ineptitude."

I don't doubt there's better writing here (some of it pilfered and sold by thieves), and some of the better writers on this site have turned pro (and I hope they make millions). But no doubt about it, garbage does sell.

Um. some of the biggest selling books ever, and one of the companies that makes a crapton pulishing sells 90% formulaic dreck. Harlequin publishing.
