Idiot who drove while texting goes to prison

Shit I would have found someway to rack up enough years to make an example of him.

I've never understood why they sentence people and then suspend some/most/all of it.

What sense does that make?

The theory is that since they are often young or first time offenders then you're cutting them some slack with the option to put them away a lot longer if they screw up. I find it stupid though. Either lock them up or don't. Not a fan of the middle ground.

Me, too. He could have put him away for at least five I'm sure. Let people know it won't be tolerated. This is why drunk driving got out of hand, for years and years nobody did anything about it.

The sentence is for the next time he appears in court. If he blows the second chance he's been given, the hammer comes down.

This sentence seems like the one he was texting at the time this happened, incomplete. I get he is young and people make mistakes... but I also get that someone is dead.

The thing is the I'm sure the kid is sorry and won't be doing that again, putting him away won't bring that person back from the dead. The reason the hammer needs to come down on this kid frankly has nothing to do with him. It has to do with society and making a point.

I always thought it had something to do with setting a precedent so that it could act in a persuasive manner in subsequent cases. But what do I know.

I've texted while driving, but only when my car wasn't moving. (i.e. in L.A. traffic.)

If you kill someone while texting, you should get the same sentence as doing it while DUI.

Yesterday afternoon, while coming back from the airport, I saw a B-double, fully loaded, being driven by a truckie who was texting.
This is a rig that easily weighs 80 tons.
I took his rego number and reported his ass

As am I and most of Lit, Im betting.
I have no idea if that is the reason or not. I watch too much Law and Order, obviously.

I don't watch as often as I used to. Always liked that one with Vincent D'Onofrio (sp?). SVU maybe? Whichever one it was he was in.
