A story of violent interracial non-consent. An opportunity to explore your darker passions.
INA, the Independent News Agency hired each summer a small but select group of journalism students as interns. The process was very selective and talent was the key to obtaining one of theses sought after internships. Unlike other major corporations INA looked on their internship program as an investment in their future and opened the program to first year journalism students as well as senior or graduate students. They believed that if you learned the business from the bottom up, learned each department
pre-production, Print, Radio and Television was the way that a good investigative report was formed, not in the theoretical ivory tower of a university.
Our young heroine is a first year journalism student and the lucky winner of one of the coveted INA internships. If she had dreamed of an exciting summer in the fast paced world of international news she soon found that her world revolved around proof reading and running copy and suffering the unwanted attentions of some of the younger staff members who saw her as nothing more then a tasty little morsel to be plucked savored and enjoyed. Over half of her six month internship had passed in the day to day drudgery of INA’s home offices, and fending off clumsy passes of her male counter parts. Half of the interns that had started with her were gone already when she began to get little fluff assignments.
The day that would change her young life for ever started with everyone in the news room eyes glued to the monitors as the latest reports of piracy off the horn of Wets Africa was breaking. It seemed a retired couple from England had been sailing around the world through the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean when they had been seized by local pirates. These pirates took any vessel they could from pleasure craft to major cargo and oil tankers. They claimed that it was the only way to support their families in the war torn area, and to fend off the local War Lords. Her thoughts were interrupted when a colleague informed her,
“Chief wants to see you ASAP Honey........has a new assignment for you. “
If she was hoping that it might be West Africa, she was to be soon disappointed as she listened to the chief ,
“ You are going to be covering the fashion shows in Milan. You can pick up your press pass and tickets from Joan in Dispersing. “
So it was to be another fluff piece.
When our young Heroine arrived at Dispersing, Joan and everyone else was fixated on an announcement from General Kummel Mustafa that he was a Patriot not a Pirate. On Joan’s desk lay two packets one marked Milan Italy, the other Somalia West Africa. One road led to galas and parties , the other to a real investigative assignment.
PM me with questions and interest.
