What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Once they decide something is true, there is no dissuasion...

There is no such thing as a degree that doesn't require extensive technology at the BA level...

;) ;)

You are so full of shit.

Do yourself a favor. Go to a real university for a day. Walk the science and engineering building. The halls will tell the story. You will not even have to step into a classroom to find out how wrong your above statement it.

You're an idiot.

I have a Science degree from a real college.

You do not need a scanning tunneling electron microscope to study physics to the Master's level.

I Я smart! I Я Union and my VoTech "education" has put me on top of the slave pyramid...
St. Pete, the Enlightened

Fucking dolt.

What year was that? Oh yeah.

How will I become proficient at using a rapid prototype machine unless I train on one? Yeah, cheapass, it cost money. Imagine that.

I thought YOUR UNION TRAINED YOU MONKEYS!!!!

That's your one consistent message about the nobility of the union and its dues!

Did all your money go to Democrats?

The union never trained engineers. Universities train engineers.

I am not going to list off all the training and classes I took at the union hall, but I constantly took classes to stay in shape.

And how many of those classes required billion dollar investments in equipment?

All of them?

;) ;)

You're trying to make an argument for the whole based on a tiny, tiny subset and as I posited before, maybe the proper strategy would be to charge a union welder a helluva lot more than the library arts students since he will make so much more and the only fair thing to do would be for him to pay his own way instead of putting it on the backs of others...

So, is the University to be in charge of every little specialization? or is that the purview of the union, since most of what you are studying are just technical "tricks."

Billion dollar? Negative. Did the union have to put money out to get computers and space and equipment? Yes. How much electricity does a shop full of welder take? How much coffee do you have to make?

Keep being a cheapass. Keep hating on education. It fits you.

Did they require you to take any English or Literature courses to get your degree?

How much, do you think, is the cost of ever-increasing technology on a think like that?

The base argument is ludicrous, that college is more expensive because of "technological" requirements.

It's more expensive because more free money has been thrown at it.

For my CompSci degree, we used theory. If you were strong enough with theory, SPRINT hired you to work with technology.

College is not supposed to be OJT!

I do not hate education.

I am currently reading four books. I polish off that many a week and it's not fiction.

Dumbass. One day, maybe you will truly care about education and not the almighty dollar that you are chasing more of to line your pocket with.

6 hours of English. There were more hours in other subjects.

Not every piece of gear can be bought by any school. What good is a computer tech that has never seen a computer?

Maybe this is why you do not have a job in that industry today.

College is not supposed to be OJT!

College is many different things to many people. 90 percent of my time was spent in theory. 10 percent using equipment in the labs. I have the best equipment that money can provide at the government lab I work in. Most students do not have that opportunity.

1. I had a job in the industry. I left to do something way more fulfilling, but then, you already know that.

2. So, we're back to "fairness" again then... as defined by yourself, I suppose.

I reiterate. When will education become more important to you than increasing your future paychecks, or is DeTocqueville's original observation to remain forever true, that Americans know a lot about their business affairs and very little about anything else...

Makes them prone to passion and emotional responses in times when reason is called for.

But then, that's what Socialist education is all about.

Read the Library of Congress and still hate education. The two have nothing to do with each other.

My support of education was around long before I decided to go back to school. I am using the system to learn and get a degree. I am confident I will get a good job at the end of this path. It takes one to get the other. My wages will be taxed and my taxes will help fund the next generation that goes to school.

See how well that works?

College means different things to different people. How many violin majors are going to make a living playing the violin? I have no numbers on this, but I am willing to be a certain number of them graduate and do other things. Education does not have to be about the money, but it can be. I would not have spent the time and energy doing this if I was going to take a cut in pay. I have a job that was more than paying the bills and supporting my way of life. But you knew that.

You hate education.

You love OJT.

Your taxes will be going not to education but to servicing the education staff and the massive debt that the free education mentality has besotted us with.

How many hours in economic study have you undertaken?

You make my point.

If it was about "education," your pay does not matter; what you continually indicate, is that it is about your bottom line...

6 hours

Lit ate a reply to one of your posts. Could you and your superhuman computing skills get this straightened out?

I actually saw the six hours of English.

You sure you really went to a real college, because I was required to take a lot more than that...

It seems funny to me that someone professing to be a martial arts instructor is going on about how theoretical learning about something is somehow superior to actual hands on experience.

How well do you think a martial arts student would fare in a tournament should he never actually throw a kick, a punch, or actually block a strike in training but instead sat with book in hand thinking about how he should react or attack? No heavy bags, no mats on which to train. Nothing to increase the cost, and the value of his training.

How well go you think a mechanical engineer would fare in the job market having never seen a CAD station? A Computer technician that has never actually worked on a real computer? A Biologist that never set foot in a lab?

It's admirable Cap'n, that you spend so much time reading the thoughts of others in the form of (non-fiction) books, because you clearly haven't thought much for yourself. Now run on over to the "American Thinker" and find a rebuttal.

1.) Martial Arts do not require your tax dollars to subsidize them.

2,) You seem to have lost train of the discussion.

3). What was your degree in again?

University, not college.

I tested out of many classes. I am sure that is why your were "required" to take more.

Yes. My "college" did not want to be embarrassed by its graduates while it seems that your "University" is probably relying on sheer volume to present itself as an effective "educator."

Have you ever read the forward (basically Chapter 1) to Hesse's Glass Bead Game?

Even then, he had his finger on what is killing academia and its reputation (as echoed by the Glow Ball Cooling hysteria).

No, but I'll get a copy.

Recommendations are always appreciated.

It's an analogy.. go find a book and look up the definition.

Education requires facilities, equipment, and highly skilled instructors, no matter the field of study. All of that costs money. I haven't lost anything Cap'n, you're making a detour into one of your 'Socialism!' rants though.

My degree? I have a B.S. in Computer Engineering Technology - Networking. I'm carrying a half dozen certifications from MS and Cisco and getting ready to move into a consulting gig for the company I've worked with for over 22 years now. edit- Who, by the way, paid for a majority of my educational needs.

So of course I know absolutely nothing about the cost requirements of getting a college degree.
