Hi,

I have recently started submitting a few stories to Lit and have been absolutely amazed when the said same stories have been favorited by some of the readers. My question is what makes the same reader come back and un favorite your story?

It is suspected that some readers use the favoriting system as a bookmark, and when they unfavorite, they are simply unbookmarking.

Most often, some of us think, the "favorite" system has been used to tag a story a reader wants to be able to find later to read later. After reading it, they then unfavorite it. It's not too likely they think a week from now they didn't really like a story and then go back and zap the favorite vote--at least not likely a reader does this very often.

I think some readers mark stories as favourites so that they can come back and read them later. Once they have read them, they then un-favourite them. Don't take it personally. At least it means that your story (probably) got read.

Perhaps it is because you can spell Wednesday or know how to use the correct forms of there, their, they're, its, it's, where, were, to, too, two, your, and/or you're?

thanks guys/girls. The swiftness of the response would indicate that this is not an un common occurrance on Lit. I was begining to get a complex but after reading your take on this behaviour I'll take it as the norm.

Thanks again,
UKD.

Yes, it's happening across the board. Having a story unfavorited isn't as clutchy as being unfavorited as an author, but that probably has the same basis.

Been favourited/unfavourited as an author...here's hoping it's just a bookmark thing! Though not qualifying to stay on the list...bah.

It happens. A reader might like the latest story you've written and enjoyed the style of writing. They might read older works and see that the style isn't as good and only keep the story they like and un-fave you as an author. I think of that, as meaning I've improved in my writing, so not a bad thing.;)

TBH when I started submitting stories I did'nt think I would be looking in too often to see how they were being recieved... but hey, human nature and all that, it soon became evident that I was craving reviews and comments (good or bad, but hoping for good mainly!!) and I just got a little curious as to why one or two dropped the favorite tag.

It has not put me off though and, having now submitted all of my "pre lit" stories and, taking on board comments recieved, I shall be penning a new story and seeing how well that is recieved.

I have always enjoyed reading and would love to be able to pass on the pleasures I feel I get from a well written story by writing stories myself. I know that I have a long way to go but at least Lit gives me the chance to practice the art and get some feedback so that I can, hopefully, improve my style and content.

Sounds reasonable, in that scenario. For me it was just a random un-favouriting (I only have one story!). I expect they don't realise we're sitting behind the scenes biting our nails and watching every vote accrue :)

I was much the same at first, then the scoring slanted my opinion of the scores and looked more at comments and faves. I've had readers fave a story too, only to un-fave it days later. I think of that as, 'I like it, don't have time to read it right now, but I'll get to it'. So it's not a loss, but a thumbs up instead.;)

Bookmarking is probably a lot of it, but I have a feeling that there are some that just thin out their favorites every now and then.

I only have six or seven authors favorited, and only authors where I really like their stories, but some people have dozens, and I can see them just going down and asking themselves 'Do I REALLY like so-and-so?'

People hate being messy. :D
