Ahhh! Nooooo! It's back, it's back! They brought it back at it's absolute worst.....

The peasant blouse! And peasant dress! Help! Bad flashbacks to puffy sleeves, embroidered butterflies, floaty muslin fabrics and ruffles on dresses....But wait! There are even more horrors! Like these...which I've no idea what they are but we women are supposed to wear 'em...

And the colors for Summer? Allow me to present the bathing suits as examples:

Teal green, turquoise, daisy yellow, hot pink...and coral. All colors that would make any woman look, um.... http://glocktalk.com/forums/images/smilies/cry.gif Please! You've got to save us from this nightmare!

Well, you don't have to wear them, you know.

I've bought shirts in tourqouise and orange, shorts in fuschia, and cargo pants in salmon. I'm loving the colors for summer.

But the OP is right-they're not for everyone.

YES!!!!

Loose tops are BACK! (I LOVE peasant blouses, the dresses not so much).

Same goes for colors that actually look good on somebody who isn't a pasty ass pale blonde!

'Bout time in THIS boobless dagos book!

Hey, I liked embroidered butterflys, flowers, psychodelique designs and the like when your jeans started to wear out. Beats the hell out of making them look deliberately like you found them in a dumpster!

I am at a weight and skin tone where every single one of those monstrosities would

A, Make me look fucking huge

Or B, make me look like I'm trying to hide that I'm fucking huge.

I'm sticking with black swimsuits this summer.

**light brown, boney assed, wop chick politely laughs into her hand**

I really dig that blue scarfie / serape looking blouse.

At least the bathing suits this year are no where close to indecent! That'll annoy some of the teenagers...

To quote one of my other alts on a spearfishing chatroom, "Must . . . have . . . more . . . black . . . bikinis!!!

Laundry? What laundry?

So, the fashion statement choice for that would be shave/not shave? :D

Usually, shaved or a neat trim. Occasionally you find a wild bush but not very often. Strangely, red bushes are usually the wildest. Go figure.

Let me guess. Best sex ever was with a guitar-playing girl who had long hair, turquoise earrings and wore peasant blouses...

Well, I meant butterflies embroidered on the peasant blouses. I fear, jeans wise, that Summer fashions are still holding to skinny jeans--though in a variety of colors (including, yes, teal, hot pink and coral).

Yes, skinny jeans, the jeans that make most of us look like we have doughy, dumpy legs. And how much better will those legs look in tropical colors! :p No embroidery; in fact, it looks like they're going back to rhinestones instead. But while the distressed look is still in vogue, I think the ripped and tattered look may be out.

So, skin-tight, bright-colred, rhinestone studded jeans paired with peasant blouses  AHHHH!

Oh, and for shoes:

Bright colored weggie-platform sandals!

:( I'm gonna hide away in a cave till Summer's over....

Better these than the dropped crotch pants the grand prize winner on the NBC fashion program final last night sent out on the catwalk.

Wanna take them sandals with you to the cave, please?

I just picked up a couple pairs of Bass Weejuns that will look simply SMASHING with those jeans! [/ Twiggy accent]. :D

Sicilian/Italian girl. Do not use the term unless you are one. "In Sicily, the women are more dangerous than shotguns"-- the Godfather

Thank you for not differentiating between Sicilian and Italian girls. Please ignore the newspaper wrapped fish on your doorstep, K? :D

We BOTH look good in brightly embroidered peasant blouses and colorful skinny jeans, though, so you're forgiven, Paisan. (cuz we Sicilians are just kind, understanding, forgiving people like that)

Ignore it? I was gonna cook it! And you are dead right about how women from the Med look great in bright colors. I'm now going to go practice fly-casting to get the image out of my mind and turn down the heat on my libido.

Married man POV:

Are the '70s returning? My sister wore those blouses and dresses back in the day!!!

Peasant blouses were popular first in the late 40's early 50's, then again in the mid-60's lasting through to the early 70's when they peaked--and went country. The current fashion can't seem to decide it wants to be in the 60's or 70's. Along with peasant blouses, I saw a lot of blinding paisley at the local department stores--very 60's but the wedge shoes are 70's

The summer look for 2012 seems to be a car-crash of early 70's + Brazilian Tropical with 80's skinny jeans in south western colors for good measure.

Just started watching mad men.

for me, the parts I find the most interesting are the cultural bits. How they treated women, how everyone smoked and drank, the racist attitudes, the style, etc.

So when they hunker down to do plot things, I'm nearly bored to tears. :D
