Sorry if this has been covered; but I searched and can't figure out how to use a photo for an avatar. Thanks in advance!

and your profile pic is simply amazing. It definitely made me smile

100 posts? Damn!! Sigh! No wonder I couldn't figure it out either. Oh well. Hey, after this only about 90-something to go. Oof.

The hardest part for me is trying to figure out the re sizing issues. Guess I should have taken some computer classes. I tried to use a photo of me, but could not re-size it properly, so for now I settled on a pic of a gorgeous ass.

Read the stickys at the top of the Playground forum pages; lots of answers in there! And welcome to Lilt!

It's true that you can't have an official avatar until you have 100 posts. But you can put a picture in your signature any time you like, which amounts to the same thing......Carney

Download the totally free program called GIMP (which is a lot like Photoshop, but free and a little simpler to use). Check out some of the tutorials (e.g. google 'resizing images GIMP tutorial') and play around with it. You don't have to learn to be a master image editor, but learning some basics will go a long way for you in producing the best images as quickly as possible. :)

Ohhhhh I didnt even see those stickies. I'll be sure to read them before I post. Thanks!

Thank you very much, that will help alot, the photo editor I have now is not easy to use and confusing. (old guys are easily confused).
I will check it out.

You're welcome! GIMP is certainly not the easiest photo editor, but it's definitely the free one you want to put your learning time into because it's very powerful, like Photoshop (and the skills are easily translated between programs if you do want/need to use Photoshop someday  ). It's a sharper learning curve, but a bigger payoff than with MSPaint or something.

And, really, the basic functions such as resizing (both in pixels/dimensions and file size - both of which need to be low enough for avatars) are not hard to learn at all if you're a willing student, which it sounds like you are. FWIW, I believe the willingness to explore and learn makes all the difference when it comes to aging (my mom, for instance, relies heavily on others to help her with technology and such, and even at 62, she's become pretty set in her ways and forgetful :( ).

The cool thing about a really good free program like GIMP is that a lot of people are inspired to put out excellent free tutorials on it to make learning quicker and easier. :) I've found awesome static tutorials (with screenshots and everything so it's easy to follow along), but I bet there are even YouTube or other video tutorials if you learn better that way.

GIMP is an amazing program indeed. I wouldn't discount Paint though. It's pretty powerful. I mean, I dot know if you know this, but I actually created my avatar and profile pic in Paint. That's not actually a photo. So yeah, you can totally get some realistic looking artwork with Paint. :)

this is good info

Sigh... me too. I spent like forever trying to figure it out and then realized it was probably a post count thing. At least now I know I'm not just being stupid haha ;)

Currently trying to get to 100 posts! Think everyone would like my picture too Xx

You can set a profile pic right now, so we can determine. I always offer my services of sifting through pics to help you get the best possible pic.
