Not really surprising since gay marriage is already banned in NC...

However with amendment one passing, the language of the bill not only bans gay marriage but prevents any couple be they heterosexual or homosexual who was previously receiving domestic benefits from getting them. So, kids who were covered under one partners health care get dropped or unmarried victims of domestic violence can no longer press domestic assault chargers.

Good job North Carolina voters:rolleyes:

The domestic violence law covers anybody who cohabitates together. Marriage is not an issue.

Not so

From what Ive read, they passed almost the same law in Ohio, and since then it has been used as a loophole, causing some domestic assault convictions to be overturned and setting precedent.

hmmmmm most states wrote it up as anybody in same household. I'm gonna research it up.

The domestic violence law are not generally a charge in itself. It is a directive to force police to charge upon evidence of the assault even if the victim refuses to testify. I'm sure every state is different. I would love to see a uniform national crimes code to dispose of the confusion.

N.C. voters approve measure to block same-sex marriage
May 9, 2012

With nearly 30 percent of the counties reporting, the constitutional amendment to make marriage between a man and a woman the
“only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized,” was winning convincingly, 61 percent to 39 percent.

It goes into effect Jan. 1. North Carolina has had a law banning same-sex marriages for 16 years.

While North Carolina solidly appeared to pass the measure convincingly, it did so by a lesser margin than many of its Southern neighbors.

In 2006, 78 percent of S.C. voters supported their amendment.

Elsewhere the endorsements ranged from 86 percent in Mississippi to 57 percent in Virginia.

In November, Minnesota voters will decide their own marriage amendment.

In Maine, residents will decide whether to rescind their 2009 same-sex ban.

The Mormons seem to be very bothered, about states that will not vote to ban marriage between gay people.

They mean a certain kind of family. Leave It To Beaver type. I got news for them. Most houses, there is one double bed in the master bedroom. ;) Babies aren't born by immaculate conception, you know. Oh, and two men kissing isn't something so hard to talk to your kids about. Just tell them that one is giving the other mouth-to-mouth.

Being able to vote away other people's rights.
Yup, and even though more people in the US favor allowing homosexuals to marry than oppose it, voters who feel it's their right (or duty) to tell others how they should live, even when it has no effect on the voter, are always going to turn out in greater numbers than those who believe in live and let live. Especially during a primary.

The vote also shows how stupid people are. Polls showed that only 46% of the voters knew it would also ban civil unions of homosexuals. I'm guessing even fewer knew it would ban them for heterosexuals as well.

It's absolutely disgusting how many Americans believe it's perfectly ok to take away other peoples' rights.

Faggots are owned by the Democrats, let Obama worry about them. Nuthin in it for the rest of us.

Spoken like a true cocksucker.

You need to accept the fact that every time the effort to legalize "fag marriage" is put on a statewide ballot, it gets defeated. Moreover, soundly. This includes such xenophobic states as California.

Get over it faggots, marriage is between a man-and-woman. Period!

You didn't really need to, as I'm sure most people already knew that, but thanks for illustrating my point. :)
