Who The Hell Is Julia, And Why Am I Paying For Her Whole Life?

In the new Barack Obama campiagn piece The Life of Julia, voters can “Take a look at how President Obama’s policies help one woman over her lifetime — and how Mitt Romney would change her story.” It is one of the most brazenly statist pieces of campaign literature I can ever remember seeing.

Let’s for the purposes of this post forget about the piece’s misleading generalizations regarding policy (no one is innocent on that account, obviously). What we are left with is a celebration of a how a woman can live her entire life by leaning on government intervention, dependency and other people’s money rather than their own initiative or hard work. It is, I’d say, brazenly un-American, in the sense that it celebrates a mindset we have — outwardly, at least — shunned.

It is also a mindset that is offensive and patronizing. When they’re old enough, I hope my own two daughters would find the notion that their success hinges on the president’s views on college-loan interest rates preposterous. Yet, according to the “Life of Julia,” women can’t do anything, not without the guiding hand of Barack Obama.

Alas, Team Obama has omitted a few milestones from the life of Julia:

4 months: Julia’s mother decides that giving birth will be hard on her figure. She kills Julia. Under Barack Obama, her right to do so is absolutely nonnegotiable.

10 years: Trapped in a failing and dangerous public school, Julia (another Julia, not the dead one) is terrified and miserable. Under the Obama administration, protecting the government education monopoly from competition and accountability is almost as sacrosanct as abortion. School-choice programs are severely constrained or eliminated. Julia falls behind.

21 years: After barely completing her high-school degree in her god-awful school, Julia goes looking for a job. There aren’t many, especially for people without college degrees. Julia kicks around the food-service and hospitality industries for a while, and ends up getting a job as a bartender. Even at her relatively low level of income, she pays a host of direct and indirect taxes to help subsidize Obama donors and supporters at politically connected businesses. She can’t quite figure out why President Obama’s pet millionaires and billionaires need her money more than she does.

22 years: After working in the bar for a while, Julia decides she likes it and wants to open her own place. But she’ll need capital to get that done. Under Obama, there is little or no credit available to small entrepreneurs, because we never got around to fixing the problems in the banking system, instead choosing to futz around with things like the disclosures on credit-card offers and micromanaging swipe fees and grandstanding about bonuses. Julia does not open her new business, and she doesn’t hire any other Julias to build, decorate, supply, or staff it.

23 years: Being a bartender, Julia works late at night. Under Obama, the federal government supports laws that make it difficult or impossible for a private citizen to own a gun in many places. Leaving her bar one night, the defenseless Julia is killed in the street. Ironically, the gun used to kill her was sold to a Mexican drug cartel under a program run by President Obama’s Department of Justice.

57 years: Julia (different Julia, not one of the dead ones) has been paying very high taxes for most of her life, mainly to support three federal programs: Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. In fact, the payroll tax diverts about 12 percent of her income — income she might have saved — into the entitlements. Under President Obama, stubborn refusal to reform these unsustainable entitlements means that the programs have to be radically cut or entirely eliminated, and Julia and her whole generation get hosed in spite of the fact that they have been taxed for decades under the phony promise that they were “paying into” the programs. The only alternative to massive cuts was an 88 percent increase in all federal taxes, which already have been rising to offset costs from Obamacare, which were wildly underestimated.

88 years: Julia (different Julia) passes away in 2022. And she got out just in time: Policies adopted by the Obama administration sent the national debt to $71,000 per person and climbing.

JAMES TARANTO: The Lonely Life Of Julia:

At 31, the story tells us, “Julia decides to have a child. Throughout her pregnancy, she benefits from maternal checkups, prenatal care, and free screenings under health care reform.” In due course she bears a son named Zachary, the only other character in the tale. . . .

The most shocking bit of the Obama story is that Julia apparently never marries. She simply “decides” to have a baby, and Obama uses other people’s money to help her take care of it. Julia doesn’t appear to be poor; at various points the story refers to her glamorous career as a Web designer, and it makes no mention of her benefiting from poverty programs like Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.

In 1999 Lionel Tiger coined the word “bureaugamy” to refer to the relationship between officially impoverished mothers of illegitimate children and the government. “The Life of Julia” is an insidious attack on the institution of the family, an endorsement of bureaugamy even for middle-class women.

The Life of Julia (Libertarian Remix)
How Obama's - and Romney's - policies will make one woman's life more miserable.
Nick Gillespie & Meredith Bragg | May 3, 2012

The Obama-Biden campaign has just released the cartoon slideshow "The Life of Julia," which takes "a look at how President Obama's policies help one woman over her lifetime—and how Mitt Romney would change her story."

In our remix of that effort, we take a look at how President Obama’s policies is already helping to make one woman’s life more miserable than it has to be – and how Mitt Romney would pretty much do exactly the same.

Under President Obama: Julia's father is arrested and put in jail for running a legal medical marijuana dispensary in California, where President Obama's Justice Department has overseen a drug war that Jacob Sullum calls in many "ways even more aggressively intolerant than George W. Bush's."

Under Mitt Romney: "We've got to not only continue our war on drugs...but also to market again to our young people about the perils of drugs."

Next: The best place for immigrants is anywhere but here...

Under President Obama: Julia's mother is among the more than 1 million immigrants that Obama has deported since taking office while promising not to deport immigrants, and loving them very much.

Under Mitt Romney: Julia's mother is also deported, but only after cutting his lawns.

Next: When college is a necessity, it will necessarily cost more and more...

Under President Obama: Julia is ready to start college at a four-year state school, which now costs $55,000 a year thanks to persistent tuition inflation fueled by massively expanded student loans and other grants. She wants to see a doctor to get free birth control but an intense physician shortage caused by universal coverage mandates means she relies on coitus interruptus.

Under Mitt Romney: College is for billionaires only and sex is banned.

Next: What goes around comes around, usually in the form of lower economic growth...

Under President Obama: After seven years and three children, Julia finishes college but has trouble finding a job in an economy that due to record high levels of spending and borrowing is at least 25 percent smaller than it might have been.

Under Mitt Romney: Record high levels of spending and borrowing are slightly lower than under Obama, but the Navy has several more boats than it did in 1917.

Next: School choice should be reserved for those who can afford to pay for it...

Under President Obama: One of Julia’s kids is forced to attend a mediocre but expensive neighborhood school because Obama has closed down school choice programs like he did in Washington, D.C. Teachers unions spent $400 million on getting Democrats elected in 2012, so really, what else could he do? Julia wants to marry her girlfriend, but Obama still refuses to support marriage equality.

Under Mitt Romney: The former Massachusetts governor bets Julia's son $10,000 that he would too have totally killed bin Laden.

Next: The future of wheelbarrows and broccoli look very promising...

Under President Obama: As publicly held debt rushes past 100 percent of GDP, Julia decides to start a new online business selling wheelbarrows in which Americans can carry their rapidly depreciating dollars to the grocery store to buy their legally mandated broccoli.

Under Mitt Romney: The Republican negotiates a deal for the federal government to collect a federal VAT on all online sales made through a weakened but still potent al Qaeda affiliates program.

Next: Why life will begin at 67, whether you like it or not...

Under President Obama: Worn out by decades of hope and change and having paid increasingly high amounts of taxes into an unreformed old-age entitlement system that went bankrupt years earlier, Julia resigns herself to the fact that she is only halfway through her work life. She is optimistic that the troops will be home soon from Iraq and Afghanistan, but probably not from Korea or the Mexican border anytime soon.

Under Mitt Romney: President Romney sells a majority stake in the United States to Bain Capital, which promises to return the country to profitability or sell off its assets within a year.

Aimed at African Americans

The title?

MO, Mo, MO:D

Warren, the Democratic Senate candidate challenging Scott Brown in Massachusetts, was the subject of a rather bizarre controversy this week when it was revealed she claimed Native American heritage as her career in academia proceeded, only to drop the dubious claim once she reached the pinnacle of her academic career track: Harvard Law faculty. She has not handled the controversy well, to say the least. And the wreckage of her campaign’s attempts at spinning this make you want to look away.

But don’t. Because Warren is playing an important role in our political discourse: she is the ghost of liberalism future. Warren’s alleged use of affirmative action, if true, would have to be the most egregious abuse of the system at the expense of minorities we’ve seen yet. Elizabeth Warren is, as a white woman, statistically speaking very much a member of this country’s majority. The only category in which she is a true minority is wealth: Elizabeth Warren is very, very rich.

But Warren was not done making a mockery of a system she seems to have exploited, and in so doing risked discrediting. To call her on these shenanigans, she explained, is sexist. Hot Air has caught her repeating this claim, making it a pillar of her defense. First, her campaign spokeswoman said this: “Once again, the qualifications and ability of a woman are being called into question by Scott Brown who did the same thing with the Supreme Court nomination of Elena Kagan. It’s outrageous.”

You do realize that if anybody ACTUALLY read your dribble they most likely had to google that word.

Julia sounds like a well-cared-for zoo animal.

And that's exactly how liberals see people. Liberals are the zoo keepers, and the great unwashed masses are zoo animals for them to feed and care for.

I am aware that MOST on LIT are TURNIP brains, yes!

Turnip brains is giving far to much credit. Did you see that many of the GB not only spend all day on Lit but they spend the day tweeting on Twatter. Motherfuckers need to get a life or at least a fucking job. No wonder America is going into the shitter.

Video: Even MSNBC Is Ripping Obama’s Cradle-To-Grave “Julia” Character…

Even the far-left lobotomized lib Donnie Deutsch says, “Nobody, even a progressive guy like myself, wants to see America portrayed that way.”

Politico’s Mike Allen: “One of the things that those hundreds of young people in the Chicago headquarters do is create viral pieces of content for the web. Things that people will share. This is one that I think may be viral in the wrong way, that I think is a lot bigger on the Republican side, than it is on the Democratic side. The Life of Julia takes her from age 3 to age 67 and at every point along the way the government is giving her a hand.”

MSNBC’s Willie Geist: “They did lob this up as a softball for Republicans, one conservative saying, ‘Who the hell is Julia and why am i paying for her whole life?’”

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough: “Who brushes her teeth?”

Mika Brzezinski: “I don’t think it helps. … I think we are at a state, time in this country where people feel that there is no hope, that they need help so desperately, but at some point we do have to inspire innovation and hope and get people on their way. … They do need a leg up but then at some point… but their whole life, funded?”

Donnie Deutsch: “Our character is John Wayne, rugged individualism. … Yes the government is there, but we feel weak in that. You don’t feel proud in that. … In reality, nobody, even a progressive guy like myself, wants to see America portrayed that way.”
