God didn't do a motherfucking thing, if he existed at all, his ONLY contribution to my drug habit was in giving the genes for addictive personality disorder. Don't know if you're trying to be sarcastic, but yes- that's the exact reason. Because every sociology study ever has shown that personal responsibility, rather then blaming your vices on a "higher power" has statistically higher results. It's about changing habits, changing the way you live and view life, and changing who you are. Which is why I haven't relapsed once, and there are people in my group who have been going to these goddamn meetings for YEARS. That aspect of the program is a determent to success.
Overall, it's a good program, though some of the steps are named retardedly. Like the "forgiveness" is more "fuck you". You don't seek out people to forgive them, what you're actually doing is saying, "Fuck you! You're an enabler, and I'm not putting up with that shit anymore. Get the fuck out of my life. You have no power over me!" How the fuck is that forgiveness?
Actually, no, a lot of the shit that goes on there is retarded. They boast about a 60% success rate. You know what teachers call that?

The last time I did that, it was to a guy, and it NEVER STOPPED HURTING when he threw it back in my face.
But going by their own mythos, I'd rather go with the guy who cared enough about me to give me free will and whatnot then the one who wanted me to be a sheep. I'm cool with Jesus, but that God guy just freaks me right the fuck out. There's a reason Christians call themselves god fearing. I've got nothing for someone willing to torture his own kid to prove a point. Or who would murder children for the sins of their parents ala Egyptian exodus, or who would torture someone who loved him to win a bet ala Job- that guy just has a horrible trac record. Not my cup of tea. Or coffee, since i don't like tea.
