ISHMAEL, I am looking for you, COME ON OUT!!!!!!!!

BB, if you sit around long enough almost anything can happen.

I never disagreed that they might try such a ploy, merely that forests are targets of low propaganda value. What's more they don't even have to strike a match, there are going to be fires this year, just like last year, and the year before that. So all they have to do is sit back and take credit for the inevitable.

Perhaps we'll be able to recruit several regiments of 'tree huggers' and send them all to Yemen.

I know your POV, we went back and forth almost a decade ago

I disagree now as I did then

NOTHING is a propoganda tool, EVERYTHING CAN BE USED AS ONE

One death, nay 25 deaths is a statistic

Yet if done the right way can STIFLE a whole city!

Nothing's changed over the years. It's a tool, just a poor one in my opinion.

Terrorism, as a goal, has to provoke fear, and as a side goal create severe economic displacement. Forest fires only create fear in the few people that might be effected. The greater population, when made aware that arson was the cause, merely become enraged. And for a forest fire to really take hold it has to start in an area that was probably severely mismanaged to begin with, which means, primarily, federal lands. Oh, there will be a dollar figure placed on the timber burned, but that's a false number in that the lumber wasn't being harvested anyway. (Which is why the fires went out of control so quickly to begin with. The dead fall and detrius had accumulated to the depth of an elephants ass.)

Forests also are lacking in any symbolic value. They don't symbolize capitalism, moral corruption, etc. They make for very poor targets in that respect as well.

But I agree with you that anything is a possibility, we just disagree on impact.

You're comparing apples to oranges there. Do you really believe that some significant portion of the media is going to become apologists for such acts? The worst case I see is Muslims in forests becoming endangered species.
